Personally, I'd rather buy a reel made in Japan than one that was made in China...like the Quantum. Quote
Super User burleytog Posted April 14, 2009 Super User Posted April 14, 2009 Do you want to buy a reel now and fish it for many years? Or do you want to buy a reel now and another one in a year or two when the Quantum decides to go up? Quote
Super User Micro Posted April 14, 2009 Super User Posted April 14, 2009 Just wait for the Curado F. Should be out soon. Pretty soon you can own the whole alphabet. Quote
adclem Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 I would most definitely choose the Shimano over the Quantum. Excellent reel and excellent customer service. Later, Quote
TeamBerettaGold Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 Do you want to buy a reel now and fish it for many years? Or do you want to buy a reel now and another one in a year or two when the Quantum decides to go up? Hmmm....Ive been fishing mine for far more than one or two years. 4-5 days a week at 4-8hours a day. I have had ZERO problems at all with any of my quantums. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted April 14, 2009 Super User Posted April 14, 2009 Today's Quantums may be better reels, but their reputation is tarnished from poor long-term performance in the past. Shimano's reputation is solid: Strong, smooth, silent and reliant. 8-) Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted April 14, 2009 Super User Posted April 14, 2009 The only problem with the E7 is that you will want more. Quote
adclem Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 The only problem with the E7 is that you will want more. X2 on that. Later, Quote
Jake. Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 Curado E7. I'd take a Japanese made reel over a Chinese made reel any day. Quote
Super User Raul Posted April 14, 2009 Super User Posted April 14, 2009 Hmmmm, ZEBCO or Shimano, that is the question. :-? Quote
ChiCityBasser Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 Hmmmm, ZEBCO or Shimano, that is the question. :-? I think everyone here started with that Zebco 202 Quote
Super User Raul Posted April 14, 2009 Super User Posted April 14, 2009 Hmmmm, ZEBCO or Shimano, that is the question. :-? I think everyone here started with that Zebco 202 Nope, I didn 't. Quote
Super User Catt Posted April 14, 2009 Super User Posted April 14, 2009 Hmmmm, ZEBCO or Shimano, that is the question. :-? I think everyone here started with that Zebco 202 True but did we stay with the 202 Quote
Pitchinkid Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 She-mano over Quantum but Daiwa over both ;D 8-) ;D 8-) ;D 8-) Quote
Stasher1 Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 Hmmmm, ZEBCO or Shimano, that is the question. :-? I think everyone here started with that Zebco 202 Nope, I didn 't. Me neither. My first reel was a 33 Platinum. ;D Quote
westpalmfrogpunk Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 I have owned the two new energys and the one 7.1 lasted one trip and the clutch died and the gears stripped out. I replaced it with the curudo and its solid. The shimanos are the way to go. Smooth solid and works consitently. Plus a lot more line capacity. Quote
ChazfromVA Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 how about we step away from both and go swedish? REVO any1? lol Quote
The_Natural Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 Today's Quantums may be better reels, but their reputationis tarnished from poor long-term performance in the past. Shimano's reputation is solid: Strong, smooth, silent and reliant. 8-) I agree with that, and I just bought two Tour Editions . Mine feel great, but then again I bought mine from Cabelas and have nothing to worry about if they go up'. Quote
adclem Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 how about we step away from both and go swedish? REVO any1? lol Sweedish with a Chinese twist.lol Later, Quote
Furbit Posted April 14, 2009 Posted April 14, 2009 Do you want to buy a reel now and fish it for many years? Or do you want to buy a reel now and another one in a year or two when the Quantum decides to go up? LOL, I have some Quantum's going on 10 years now and still work as good as new. Contrary to popular belief Quantum makes great rods and reels. Quote
andamtoft Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 I haven't fished shimanos, but i have fished quantum with absolutely no problems, people are afraid to buy them because of their past reputations, but their new products seem to be solid. But the truth is no one can tell you what reel is going to work better for you. the only way you'll know is if you go to the store and see which one fits you better. either way you are gonna end up with a quality reel. BassCats Posted April 15, 2009 Author Posted April 15, 2009 I tried the revo's and even spent money on the Revo Premiere. Sold all of them because I didn't like the way they felt. am looking at trying shimano or quantum now and don't want to spend more than $200 for a reel. Tried the pflueger presidents as well, but they only lasted 2 seasons before stripping out and having to be completly rebuilt Quote
hawgchaser Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 The new Energy is the best sub $200 reel I have used. The Curados are nice as well but I prefer the energy. I have owned over 20 Shimano reels from Calcuttas to Citicas and everywhere in between. They have all been good but did not hold up any better than Quantums or any other brand i have owned. If they would go to external braking controls, i would start buying them again but until then I will stick with my Quantums. Quote
basser89 Posted April 15, 2009 Posted April 15, 2009 Love my Quantums! My oldest is 12 years old and still works great! I own 6 Accurists (all are the older model) and 3 Energies (640PT, E770PT and E750PT). I'd like to eventually move all my reels to the Energy line up! Quote
