Cabela's has in its '09 catalog a new design of a Pflueger Medalist spinning reel. BPS shows nothing in its catalog ( I didn't check on-line's) The old style listed for $79, the new lists for $99 ( of course).

Has anyone handled one or seen one of these?

I'm not in the market just curious is all.

In the catalog it kind of has a boring brown or gray look to it(?)

I have a medalist 5000 series reel, it's  the saltwater version of the president.  I bought it a little less than a year ago, so it's not the newer one.  Just a wonderful reel, smooth as butter, excellent drag, the finish shows no wear from the elements, except a few scratches that any reel would show after use.  A tad heavy at 18 oz, but very manageable.

ive always liked the 60/7025 medalists. they seem a bit heavy though./

No disrespect but this post confuses me. Which one was it? maybe I'm reading things wrong but the 7025 never existed before (?)

This is a brand new Medalist just out, not the silver ones fom last year I think.

Now that I check the spec's side by side they are the same capacities etc.

At first I thought did they just paint it different and raise the price?

The spool has different drilling and it appears they went to a carbon fiber drag vs stainless steel w oiled felt washers.

I am a big fan of Pflueger spinning reels, and own several Presidents, and Supremes. I do have a Medalist, and while it is a rock solid reel, it's a boat anchor. I don't even use it any more. For a few bucks more the Supreme is where it's at from Pflueger, and fore a few bucks less the President is no slouch either. I really want to get the new President XT, aluminum body and lighter than the Medalist, but I need another spinning reel like....................well lets just say I have enough.

wonder why there is such differences in weight. i really wouldnt mind one in a xx25 size if the 7.x oz weight is right. but the flooger website itself states 10.0 oz.

hmf.

What confused me first was how you had liked the 7025 which never existed until now. No big deal I was just confused.

As far as the weights geez what a mess. The one E-bay is sort of misleading although I think inadvertantly so. they show pictures of both the new style and the old. I believe the old style picture is supposed to be for the largest size reels. The item for sale in this case was the smallest reel but the part# & the pic are the old style and at no discount. Perhaps a little sneaky.

cabelas has the 7025x at 7.8oz and the official site says 10.0 for the 7025. no x. maybe a cabelas exclusive? i think one of the two need to clarify that more.
