Live.2.Fish Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 I was just wondering what is everyones take on SPRO lures, specifically their lipless cranks, and topwaters. Good, bad, ok? I saw they a few days ago in my tackle shop and they look descent. Quote
Branuss04 Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 I used a buddies Aruku shad, it wasn't too bad, nothing impressive. Haven't used the topwater but I have a couple BBZ's. Durable and I love the action. Quote

bmadd Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 The aruku shads are a very nice lipless bait. They run with their nose farther down, that gives you a little extra edge over hangups. The dawg topwater baits do look real good too and for the price I thought they would be a cheaper alternative to the sammy. However, the action is lacking. It is a lot more difficult to get the dawg to walk the dog when compared to a sammy or a spook even after I added a split ring. Not to say I haven't caught a lot of fish on one though, I did fairly well on my last tournament with one. I'll give you a thumbs up on the aruku but I don't reccomend the dawg. Quote
Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted December 17, 2007 Super User Posted December 17, 2007 I have the bronzeye frog and am kinda dissappointed.Maybe I'm just not too good with those kind of lures but it seems to me to just be a piece of dead plastic floating in the water,no action even if you try to apply and for 10.00 a piece!? No I cant walk the frog with it like I can the snagproof ones. Quote
cbfishalot Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 I fish there frogs and lipless cranknbaits and they are worth trying. The o-rings and swivels are some of the best you can buy. IMO Quote
Triton9 Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 i love their bronzeye frogs, best topwater frog ever in my opinion. havent used much of their other stuff though. Quote

BassFishingMachine Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 Don't like the bronze eyes, the paint job got torn up on mine, Ive had some that were too soft and sunk after 30secs in the water, would have to reel em in and squeeze water out, had some that were too stiff and hook set wasn't good. They did seem to get alot of hits though, but I don't like em. Best frog Ive found so far for me is the original scum frog in black/green (take a look at the color cause black/green doesnt describe it well), this frog gets me alot of strikes, it always floats well, and its nice and soft for a good hook set, and after hookin a fish its still in quality form just arrange the hooks again, and your good to go. http://www.scumfrog.com/scumfrog.html As for the other spro products I couldn't tell ya, but I did see the lipless cranks once and paintjob looks pretty. Avalonjohn44 Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 I have a couple of their little bluegill shaped cranks. The paint job is very interesting, I don't know how to describe it, except that it looks very realistic, how fish really look underwater. Unless you crank them very slowly, they roll on you. I have caught fish on them, but not consistently. The Aruku Shad looks nice, but I have not tried it out yet. I consistently shred on a $1.95 speed trap or diamond shad, so I see no need to pay $7 for a rattle trap... I think this is the one that is guaranteed to sink and run, even set on the bottom, upright, but I saw one at Greentop in VA sitting on the counter in a jar of water, on its side. There was string attached to it, so you could watch it fall, but it kept landing on its side... Their DD25 lure (don't know why they are called that, they only go 12-14 feet per the literature on the package) are OK. Supposedly they swim differently, more like a minnow with the body parallel to the bottom rather than nose down. They do have a good bit of action, but their colors are just awful IMO. I don't know why they don't try putting their bluegill bait colors on these baits. If I am going to use a diving crank, I'll use a Bagley DD KB2 or a Rapala DT. I have a bronze-eye frog, but have not caught anything on it yet. When fishing a topwater frog lure, I'd rather go with the much cheaper, replaceable, Lunker City Salad Spoon. My friend does pretty well on their lead head bucktail jigs, especially this time of year in the Shenandoah, I haven't tried them yet though. Quote

Super User Gatorbassman Posted December 18, 2007 Super User Posted December 18, 2007 I fish the Aruku Shad a little. lol The one at the lower left is the new size 85. Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted December 18, 2007 Super User Posted December 18, 2007 I've got no clue why this little bait never took off. It's a fish catcher. I prefer it over any lipless crank in most situations. I can't wait to throw that 1oz monster this spring at the Guntersville Roadtrip. Quote
Cory20 Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 FLuke, why are some of the rear treble hooks off. I bought a couple of the bronze eye frogs at the beginning of last summer, now I know why they are on sale everywhere. The paint scrapes off really easily, which isn't that big a deal to me. My biggest complaint is that the weight in the butt fell out on both of them and they started leaking to the point that I wasn't able to fish them. It might just be me being bitter, but I had just as many strikes and a little bit better hook up with the cheapy green snagproof. I never did get into walking the frog, but right now, the hardware is getting taken out and the rest is going in the trash. I'm going to look at bobby's, the snag proof tourney, and whatever else is recommended on this forum come next season. Quote
LCpointerKILLA Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 aruku's are my second chioce behind a rattlin vibe and third favorite is a d7 Quote
Tokyo Tony Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 Was Roland Martin the one who endorsed the helcopter lure? Yes. What a pile of feces that lure was. Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted December 18, 2007 Super User Posted December 18, 2007 FLuke, why are some of the rear treble hooks off. I take of the back hook and add a very large hook to the front when I am fishing grass. It rips out of the grass better. Quote
Super User T-rig Posted December 19, 2007 Super User Posted December 19, 2007 I'm surprised that nobody mentioned the spro chug minnow. http://www.tackletour.com/reviewsprochug.html Quote
mike bat Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 i use the chug minno ... i really like the chug minno ..... i like being able to fish this bait a few different ways .... you can pop it like a poper or walk it like a spook ,,, or bolth on the same cast .... i also have a ton of the spro props .... i really like these baits also .... i know this summer ill be able to lite them up with this bait .... then theres the spro frog ..... a killer bait ,,, also the best frog out there ..... if you seen this bait on sale its more than likely the new colors are coming and ive been waiting for that lepard frog ,,, toad ,,, clown .,,, and theres a brown and purple one that looks killer .... i cant wait ..,,.,. Super User South FLA Posted December 20, 2007 Super User Posted December 20, 2007 I actually have a Spro Dawg100 Roland Martin Signature Series that I picked up the Bassmaster Classic in Orlando a couple of years ago. The funny thing is that I actually got it signed by Roland Martin ;D. His booth opened up right after I bought it so I had him sign it. No, I don't fish with it, I am thinking someone will pay big bucks for it one day. I have a couple of Akura Shads, I've caught bass and they seem to stay out of the weeds a bit better than other lipless baits. The Spro Frog is awesome, I've worn out over 5 of them catching hogs down here in FL. The paint peels off the top close to the hooks only after tons of use, the fish only sees the bottom anyway. If you want to walk the dog easier trim one skirt a bit shorter than the other. Quote
BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted December 21, 2007 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted December 21, 2007 I like the aruka shad. Very durable paint. Quote
