It seems everyday something new comes along in this sport that is a must-have. From high tech rods and reels, to ultra realistic baits that imitiate a minnow down to the individual rays on the fins. The Japanese have pulled out all the stops in an effort to bring us the very best. Lures with individual scales and real fish skins. Baits with tight wobbles than run true. It seems there is no price too high for realism.

In the quest to produce the incomparable lure, the doo-dad consistently capable of fooling bass, the irresistable deceiver of bucketmouths, all the engineers from Aomori to Kagoshima, and all the bait companies from Angler's Republic to Zip Baits have failed to produce anything really any better than...

...the Heddon Lucky 13

I just wanted to get that off my chest. Thanks for reading. :D

All the high end bait manufactures in the world are spending big $ in R & D to develop a bait that will come close to a "Manns Jellyworm" for catching fish. LOL

Great post and a good insight. JMHO

I have about 5 Lucky 13's that were my dads. He died in early 1970, so they are all from the 1960's or older. Only one Lucky 13 is in great condition and that has been packed away. I'm waiting for hooks from Stamina right now to get some of his other lures up and ready.

Most had been repainted by him, so I figure they aren't worth much except for what they were made for.

I was going to use them and some Creek Chub Pikie Minnows for Musky when the water thaws again.
