Reel oils

What does every one like the best?? do you use the major brand stuff or some mom and pop store made lubes???? what do you think? I Race Radio control cars and this company named Trinity makes this stuff called Formula 2000 Bearing oil.. I use it as I have for years on my motors and never had a bearing fail and when there spinning 30-80,000 RPM all day long and exposed to dirt and what not I totally trust it in my spool bearings.. I have used all the bearing oils out there for reels and NEVER found one to out preform F2000 on spool bearings. oh yeah it totally stops rust too. for grease I use Reel butter I dont like hot sauce it makes to much a mess.

Death sauce ? no thank you

Daiwa 's red oil and amber oil must be the same, one has color the other one doesn 't. My Pixys came with a bottle of red oil, my Alphas Itö and TDZs came with a bottle of amber oil and I swear I can 't tell any difference between both.

Shimano 's reel oil is also good.

Abu Garcia reel oil is also good.

Haven 't tried the others.

Ardent Reel Butter for me. I tried "Death sauce" as Raul called it and absolutely hated it. Shimano's is good as well. Haven't tried the others.

Over the years, with all the Abu Garcia reels that I own, I've always used their oil, except for a synthetic oil my brother gave me. Never had any problems.

I have used and own Ardent, Abu, and hot sauce. They all do the job. Without question, hot sauce provides the best initial performance. However, it needs to be applied more frequently.

The other 2 perform just fine and will last a little longer than Hot Sauce. I don't get the death sauce claim. I've used it on dozens of reels for years and never had a problem. I do get my reels professionally cleaned once a year.

Yellow Rocket Fuel. It is very close in viscosity to Shimano oil

My reasoning for not liking Hot Sauce is on both ends of the temperature range. In Cold weather (somewhere around 40 degrees and lower), it gummed up on me and the reels did not feel any where near as smooth as they do at room temperature. In Hot weather (about 90 degrees or warmer), I found it to thin out to the tip where the reel would scream on a handful of casts. I also found that it wouldn't matter if I cleaned and lubed the reels the night before an outing. Maybe, I just ran into a bad batch, I can't say for sure there but that's my experience with it. Since I made the switch, I haven't experienced this with the Reel Butter.

Good to know. I don't do much cold weather fishing here. Usually in the winter i am duck hunting However, I do fish in Feb and March and haven't had that problem but it usually isn't below 40 when I go.

I use Ardent right now and its fine. Honestly, I don't really care what oil I use. All of the major stuff has worked well for me.

i bought some of Reel Mech's stuff but i have not used it yet. i assume its top notch!

It is.  To top it off, it comes in a bottle with a tip that dispenses just the right amount for most bearings.

I use Shimano mostly as a general oil.

TG Rocket Fuel, Daiwa or Oust Speed for higher grade ceramic bearings.

I just use Shimano.  That may change after I get my reels serviced by Reel mechanic.
