Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted April 7, 2009 Super User Posted April 7, 2009 I've got a stocked lake sitting behind my house. I used to tear it up, but I stopped fishing for several years due to my lack of time with the kids and whatnot, but now that they are a little older I find myself able to enjoy going out on my boat again and doing some early morning and afternoon fishing. What I'm looking for right now is a mid range baitcaster that I can pick up at my local BPS (I have two within easy driving range). I grabbed a Daiwa MF100TSH while I was there a couple of days ago picking up a few baits. I've come to discover after using it a bit that the "twitching bar" while an interesting feature, just seems like it gets in my way more often (that and I would rather twitch the rod tip instead). The 7.1 speed seems like it's a bit too fast for most of my applications anyways. Also some of the reviews on the reel seem to lean down to the negative side. I'm considering returning it and grabbing something that has better reviews. I was looking at the Daiwa Procaster PT100-6Bi as well as the BPS Pro Qualifier PQX10HD Any other reels that you guys could recommend would be great, along with any info on the Daiwa MF that I have right now (could save me a trip to the store). Thanks a lot. I would have added links to each reel, but it seems that I can't until I have a few more posts... Quote
dmac14 Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 Welcome For that price range, you can find Citica E's and revo s'. I have heard great things about both these reels. Also quantum Accurist on ebay, just got one and it seems really nice (havent done much fishing with it yet). Quote
Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted April 7, 2009 Super User Posted April 7, 2009 Any of the Revos are great reels, I have many of them. Another reel that I have been very pleased with is the Daiwa TD Pro. They are made exclusively for BPS. Twelve bearings and swept handle, along with many other features. They are also on sale for $99.94. Falcon Quote
bassinfla82 Posted April 7, 2009 Posted April 7, 2009 the Daiwa Exceler or TD-Pro would be the choice I would go with in that price range. the only difference between the two reels besides the 20-30 dollar price is the TD-PRO has bearings in the knobs and the color looks cooler to me but other then that there the same reel. ChazfromVA Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 the revos are good reels but i would reccomend a quantum catalyst.. its a bit more expensive but well worth the money in the long run Quote
adclem Posted April 8, 2009 Posted April 8, 2009 I would go with either the Shimano Citica or Abu Garcia Revo S. Both these reels are top notch quality and will last you a very long time and are very easy to use. Later, Quote
Super User SoFlaBassAddict Posted April 9, 2009 Author Super User Posted April 9, 2009 Ended up picking up a nice new Revo S (thanks to those that recommened it) along with a Pro Qualifier. I couldn't resist getting the BPS reel when the woman at the counter rang it up an additional 15 bucks cheaper than it was marked at. Got it for 60 bucks (I had to wait a while for their computers to come back up). So far it seems extremely smooth. Only time will tell on that one. But I did manage to set myself a new PB on it earlier today, so I can't complain one bit about it. Quote
