Hey all....

I started a thread a while back about flouro and the difficulty of use etc.

I did get many good suggestions from folks on the board here about what brand to use and how to treat it, how to spool it up, using KVD L+L on it, and many more opinions and suggestions. Well............

I spent quite a bit of money on various brands, and since most are made in the same factories in Japan, I am not sure there is much difference. I am STILL having problems with the line curling up on the spool of my baitcasters and "professional over runs". With the improvements in braided line and their ease of use, I just don't see what all the hoopla is about. To me, I just can't see having to worry all the time about this line. I would rather be fishing then worrying about will the line backlash, will I break it off, and on and on....

I can understand flouros benefit when bed fishing and for some finesse presentations but that's about it. I even asked Timmy Horton if lite braid could be used for cranking and he didn't say no....just that he prefers flouro.

Can someone here convince me why I should continue the "flouro" quest?? Is it REALLY worth it???? :-/

Id also like to know what everybodys gettin excited about? Ive always prefered mono over everything, i just never could get into anything else.

i hear you loud and clear...i too went through the different brands and still hate it. i am trying the co-poloymer this year because of several suggestions. however the rest will be braid with a flouro leader(when needed)and good ol'mono! i am in love with braid! i dont think there is anything you cannot do with braid and a leader besides topwater. just my 2cents.

I agree. I haven't purchased flouro since the first two spools I tried. I still can't understand why other people use it.

I like it but I guess thats just how I roll. I cant hardly cast line on a BC if its limper than 12lb Trilene XL.

I haven't had any problem with Fluorocarbon since I learned how to tie a knot that would not break.  I find it as easy as mono.  The only thing I still use mono for is cranks.  Learn how to educate your thumb and adjust your brake to eliminate overruns.

Hey guys, just thought I would pipe in on this one.  Not a real frequent poster, but I have been using Fluoro for over a year now and am having very few problems.  We have all heard the benefits to Fluoro, the main ones being that it is invisible to the fish, and less stretch than monofilament.  

Personally, there are 2 benefits that are the most important to me.  

1.  The line doesn't absorb water, therefore it sinks faster, is more sensitive than mono and doesn't increase in stretch after being in the water for awhile.  

2.  The most important to me.  I use Fluoro mainly for my bottom baits - jigs, worms, shakey-head, etc.  I prefer it over braid, because although braid is probably more sensitive.  That also translates to it being more sensitive on this fish end as well.  Meaning, a fish can feel your resistance quicker with braid, than with Fluoro and in my experience tend to drop the bait a little quicker.  That little bit of stretch in Fluoro translates into me having a little more time to set the hook.  

Anyway, just my personal opinion guys.  I think braid is great too, and at times I think it is preferable to use it over Fluoro, but I often employ a Fluorocarbon leader then too.  

Just for reference the brands I tend to use:  XPS Fluoro on my baitcasters (most abrasion resistant I've found) and P-line Fluoro on my spinning reels.

I use flouro for anything I can now, I love the stuff. Trilene 100% is my favorite. I also use p-line flouroclear a lot as well, depending on what I have the money for or lying around.

I tried Seagar Invizx, hated the stuff, and never used it again.  Yo-Zuri Hybrid is the perfect compromise between pure fluoro and mono.  I use it for everything.

8lb on the Sol spinning reel has yet to prove itself, a little loopy still, but a few fish should fix it.

Plenty of KVD, tie it to the fence in the back yard and walk it out, give a few tugs to work out any memory... good to go.

I agree, Yozuri Hybrid is awesome stuff.  I use it a lot in addition to my fluorocarbons.

All my rods with the exception of my frog and heavy duty grass rods have either Trilene 100% or Seaguar Invizx. Stuff is great, abrasion resistant, and I'm convinced I get more bites that with mono because of it's light refraction properties.

When I put it on I soak the spool in water for a while, then just put it on coming off the bottom of the spool, and before it goes onto the spool I have a cloth with KVD L + L on it that I run it through. Then I tie a hook on, dig the hook into something, walk 75% of the line off, and put it back on real tight. Works great for me.

fluro is OK but i still personally use mono.. IZORLINE XXX is the only line for me!  ;D

The ONLY reel i have spooled with fluorocarbon is the Revo on my 7' 6" flippin stick. Since it is a short cast technique only set-up the lines stiffness is not an issue. And i need the sensitivity and low stretch for flippin. Other than that the hassle is not worth it to me!

Bought a spool of Berkley 100% last year in 6lb test for my finesse rig.  I don't even care enough to work at trying to make myself like this stuff.  You guys can have it, I'll stick to my XT.

I quickly got off the flouro bandwagon myself. I'm trying Yozuri Hybrid and we'll see. The 15 lb I have is pretty kinky.

I didnt have any luck with the Yozuri Hybrid but I am liking P-Line fluoro...Still prefer braid over everything else but for my finesse rigs I spool up the fluoro.

The Yozuri hybrid works fantastic for me, but I only use 10 and 12 lb line on most of my baitcasters.

I tried the 20lb Yozuri on my flipping stick, and it felt like the reel was spooled with CATV cable, and was just about as workable. Now I think I'll stick with braid on this rod.

I agree though, that other than the 10 and 12 lb hybrid I referenced above, I still use mono for most other applications, and it feels the best to me, personally.

For all you Fluro Haters, Give Copolymer lines a try. I HATE Fluro with a passion. I recently switch to Coploymer lines and love them.

I gave up on flouro a couple of years ago. It was a case of why bother.

You have to be careful with kinking when backlashed. You have to very careful with knots. You have to careful when spooling. You have to use a line conditioner.

I use Trilene XL for everything. The only thing I have to do is spool it on the reels, and go fish.

I am glad I am not the only one.  For the past 3 years I have tried Seagur Invisx, Trilene 100% floro, Berkley Vanish, BPS brand, and Vicious.  I went back the Trilene Big Game green in 10, 12 15lb on my baitcasters.  I use P-line Cx premium copoly on spinning, and Power Pro braid on swim jigs and frogs.  I will never go back to floro.  They all have one characteristic tha no one can argue with -- if you have even the slightest bit of fray in floro it is going to snap.  I fish around 90 days a year and compete in several tournaments.  I can't stand floro and won't use it just because the pros use it.
