rolltide Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 Has anybody tried any of these insect imitating crankbaits? What time of the year do you like to throw them? Quote
Terry_ Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 Big article about those things in bassmaster magazine a few months ago. They say late spring during a mayfly hatch. I have'nt yet seen a mayfly as big as these cranks so I have not yet tried it. But hey, if it's in bassmaster magazine there might be something there. Maybe I'll try one this coming spring. Quote
rolltide Posted December 15, 2007 Author Posted December 15, 2007 That's where I got the idea to ask the question. Also, do bream usually eat mayflies before bass can get to them? Quote
Terry_ Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 With all the other types of forage available, and given the size of a mayfly, I can't understand why a mature bass would exert the energy needed to feed on the little guys. To answer your question, if both a bass and a bream took an interest in the same mayfly, my money is on the bass!! Quote
BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted December 15, 2007 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted December 15, 2007 I read that too and can't wait to try them. Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted December 15, 2007 Super User Posted December 15, 2007 bluegills target the smaller stuff...mayflies, ants, beetles, juvinile hoppers, damsel flies. bass get the big stuff...dragonflies, locusts, adult hoppers. their favorite summertime topwater snak is a dragonfly...thats coming from a fly fisherman Quote
fatmanslim247 Posted December 15, 2007 Posted December 15, 2007 I used to use a little grasshopper crankbait when I was younger at small ponds. I loved them I caught more bass on those then I have on any single bait. Quote
Super User Sam Posted December 15, 2007 Super User Posted December 15, 2007 I have not had any success with these "bug" imitations. I guess I like the regular old crankbaits that are out there. May give them another chance this spring. Quote
Super User Sam Posted December 15, 2007 Super User Posted December 15, 2007 And guys, speaking about weird crankbaits... www.luresandstuff.com/page/page/301876.htm Give some of these babies a try and let us know how you do. Quote

LCpointerKILLA Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 What's that weird japanese crankbait that someone showed on a thread like a month ago, it has sort-of a spinnerbait skirt in the middle of it? Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted December 17, 2007 Super User Posted December 17, 2007 gcpm, im not sure what bait youre reffering to, but here are some very very VERY strange japanese cranks:L all of those are made by the same company and they are just plain stupid looking.....not worth the $40 they cost!!! Quote
guitarkid Posted December 19, 2007 Posted December 19, 2007 i could make that for half of that probably. and i thought lucky craft jerk baits were expensive. Quote
