While I was thinking about my knot situation with braid, I also wanted to know if the palomar is OK to use with fluorocarbon too.  Any info??

I haven't had very good luck with the Palomar knot.  Try the fishing fool knot.  Google to see how to tie.

I use the trilene knot  with fluorocrarbon, except when dropshotting, for that I use a palomar. No problems with either, wet them good and you should be fine.

I have stuck with the Palomar for floro. tied very carefully and wet while tightening.  So far no failures.  Best rule is use what you have confidence in.

Fluorocarbon will separate the pretenders from the contenders when it comes to knot tying.

On a Palomar specifically, most simply pull on both the main than the tag to snug the knot down.  This is wrong.  get the mainline snug, and pull the tag ONLY.

If there is a curly-q in your line just above the hook, start over - you mashed and distorted the fluorocarbon.

Likewise, when tying a Uni, snug the coils of the knot without pulling on the loop going through the hook eye.  Then wet the mainline and knot, and gently slide it to the tie off.  Finally pull the tag to tighten.  Again, any curly-q's, you can start over.

I've hooked and landed fish as large as 22# (brown trout) on 4# fluorocarbon.  Its not the line, its the knots :)

The palomar is the only knot i use for my BPS fluorocarbon. I have never had a break at the knot! Just saliva it good and cinch it slooooowly.

I've always used the Palomar but tested the knot after tying each time.  I recently read how Gary Klein switched from the Palomar to the Eugene knot for fluoro as he had occasional problems.  Shaw Grigsby was the one who directed him to the Eugene knot as apparently he switched much earlier for the same reasons.

I'll be giving that a try the next time I'm out so I can only relay what I've read having no personal experience.

this is a good question.  im gonna throw mine out there too.

i have a baitcaster and im using the Yo-Zuri 12# test.  i have been using the palomar knot as well.  i have not caught anything (see signature quote) so i have not had the knot fail.

is the palomar good to use for tis Yo-Zuri Hybrid line?

I totally agree. I've used the polamar for many years with no problems. And it works especially well for drop shotting. You just have to learn how to tie it properly; as has been outlined here.

One more Palomar user here with no issues on fluro, braid or mono. I just make sure I moisten the knot before I cinch it down.

Guys this is the correct way to tie a Palomar  :)
