Shimano Stradic or Quantum Catalyst

I'm thinking about buying a new spinning reel and wanted to see if anyone has experience with one or both of these reels.  Let me know what you recommend.

No experience with the Quantum, but I have owned a few

Stradics going back to around 1997. Although I have given

mine away to friends, they are are still being fished and are

as strong, smooth, silent and reliant as the day they came

out of the box.

The new Stradic 2500 FI incorporates many of the features

that were previously only offered on the Stella. When it was

introduced in 2007, the reel was awarded ICAST "Best In Class".

If you are going to compare a quantum reel with the stradic it has to be the energy.  Those 2 reels are very much on the same level, after that it is all personal preference.

Last years energy is a great reel.  I bought one from the Bargain Cave from Cabelas for $89.  Great reel, haven't had the chance to really try it out but fishing with it the past few weeks has been pretty good.

i have the new catalyst and last years energy. i have to say hands down the new catalyst pti-b is alot nicer than last years energy pti-a. i intially bought the catalyst to back up my tour and energy,but it has won its place above the energy. very nice reel and great new color! i actually tried to buy the new abu soron but they were sold out and i went home with the catalyst. before you decide, go and play with a soron! they are way cool and out of stock everywhere i go. maybe that means something! anyway catalyst gets my vote.

I don't have any experience with the Shimano Stradic but I have handled the New Quantum Catalyst PTI-Band it is a very very smooth reel. I have the Shimano Sahara and the New Catalyst is every bit as smooth and much lighter and smoother than last years Catalyst PTI-A which I do own and fished with all last year. I also have the New Quantum Kinetic PTI-B and its a great reel also. I picked it up after initially getting the Quantum KVD during the BPS sale and tried it out a couple times and it never really felt that smooth. I went back and traded it for the Kinetic and glad I did.

Catalyst gets my vote as well

I've got the Catalyst 20 pti and just can't seem to put it down.  Use it for on several different rods and it seems to excel on all of them.  Never had any high line reels until I bought this one and for $55 I couldn't pass it up.  Once I got it, tried to order another one and they were already sold out!  Wish I had a couple more!  Thought the bail system was a gimmick, but proved to be way better than others.  Good luck and think you'll love your new Catalyst!
