ghost Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Which of these 2 line weights would be a good all around line? I want to use this for worms/jigs, topwater, shallow cranks & medium cranks. Maybe also use either of these lines for frog fishing in less weedy areas. I know there are other lines to consider like Yozuri, Sufix & braids. P-Line to me seems to be a very good strong line w/ all the qualities I want in abrasion resistance & less visibitlity...& for sure strength. Thanks Quote
triwbass Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 i use 10lb pline cxx in moss green for all my application except pitching / flipping ,carolina rigging , frogging i use 12lb pline cxx on the 10lb i straightened a 2/0 gamakatsu worm hook ,,,,if you get it in heavier than 12lb it gets some memory and in all my experience the 10 and 12 are super strong Quote
uicdent11 Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 I use 10lb when I use CXX, but I do not have any on my baitcasters this year yet. Trying Yo-Zuri for the first season and love it. Had no problems with the CXX btw, just wanted to try something new. Will probably use the CXX on a frog rod soon though. Quote
viscid240 Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Yup, 10lb. cxx on the symetre and seems to work great. Quote
mattm Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 12lb cxx for pulling stumps up that are already uprooted. 15 when you have to uproot them up yourself. Quote
Super User Raul Posted March 31, 2009 Super User Posted March 31, 2009 12lb cxx for pulling stumps up that are already uprooted. 15 when you have to uproot them up yourself. You can uproot the stumps with 12 lbs CXX, no need to go for 15 lbs ..... unless you need to uproot a sumbmerged tree. Quote
Triton20XSD Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 I use 15# on my mh spinnerbait, heavy action jig & m action buzzbait rods. Very strong line. If you plan on using it for deeper cranks you may want to go to the 12#. I have 12# fluoro on my deep cranking rod & 10# on my medium cranking rod. Quote
alanmikkelsen Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 10 lb. CXX breaks at 17 pounds. I use 10 pound CXX for steelhead fishing, where the average fish is 12-18 pounds and fights twice as hard as any bass. Quote
Stingray23 Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 I have both 12 and 15# CXX for different applications. The 12# I use for spinnerbaits, topwater, swimbaits. 15# for t-rigged plastics, jigs, heavy, slow moving bottom baits. I also use 10# CXX for all crankbaits. Just remember the KVD line cond. Makes a HUGE difference. Quote
mase088 Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 Would anyone happen to have a link to a chart of average breaking strengths for the different lb tests? Like the one Yo-Zuri has? I've been googling and can only find it for 10 lb. Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted April 1, 2009 Super User Posted April 1, 2009 Go with the 12. Fifteen would be better if the cover is heavy though. Generally if I have to go higher in strength than 15 pound test, I reach for braid. Try the CX premium as well. A little less memory and pretty much the same in strength and abrasion resistance. llPa1nll Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 Well I guess Im an aberration I use 15lb on most of my rods except my jig and worm rods where I use 17lb. On my flipping and swimbait rods I use 20lb. My friends joke at me cause if I could get away with it Id use chains. ;D Quote
