After fishing in the pouring rain and frigid temperatures last weekend, I've realized that my Columbia jacket isn't as waterproof as they claim.  So it's time to look into better rain gear.  I've been looking at BPS and Cabelas brand.  I really like the 100mph suit from BPS but can't really justify paying that much right now, so I'm leaning towards the Pro Qualifier series.  Any one got any suggestions or another brand I may have missed.

The Cabela's Guidewear is supposed to be good stuff.  I've got a BPS Pro Qualifier that has performed well.

LL Bean has some great looking rain gear, but it is pricey.  Occasionally the have really good sales.

I have a browning rain jacket that I am very pleased with. It was around  $100. I have not purchased the bibbs yet.

The BPS 100MPH suit will keep you dry, but it will drive you nuts. Every move you make, it talks back to you.

Wearing one of these outfits, you couldn't sneak up on a glass of water.

I love my Gander Mtn. guide series tech2o.  It is gortex and has the nice neoprene cuffs on the sleeves and is light/breathable.  I got it super cheap (they mismarked it for $68).  I am pretty sure I am the only one that got it for that cheap!  It was around $100 normally and the bibs are going for $90 right now.

Thanks for the help.  Does the cabelas guidewear come with a zip in liner like the 100mph suit?

Either one of these and you will be okay.  Anything really that has Gore-Tex should be just fine.

I think the Cabela's Guide Wear has an insulated and non-insulated version, some of the insulated versions contain a zip out liner.

I just bought the Gander Guide Series last week, bibs and parka. Paid $225 for the set. Very comfortable get-up. Cant wait for it to rain....

Personally I use non-insulated Cabela's Guide Wear.  I went with non-insulated so I didn't get as hot when I used it during the summer.  Remember, you can always wear layers under them.

I got the BPS 100 MPH for Christmas in 07.  Best rain gear I have ever had by far.

Cabelas Guidewear or the BPS 100MPH suits cannot be beat. They are worth every penny and you will not regret the purchase of either.

Pretty much.  I've got a BPS XPS suit (the precursor to the Qualifier), and it is awesome....hasn't let me down.  I also have a Cabelas Guidewear Jacket, and it has a heavier grade of Gore-tex.  You can't go wrong with either.  I actually wish I got to wear mine more; it's like I appreciate my nice rainwear when it rains....but it isn't that often I fish in the rain.

Anything but Frogtogs. Just bought some Field and Stream from Dick's but haven't had the chance to use them yet.

what did you not like about the Frogg Toggs? i heard good things about them for rain gear? not the best for winter and warmth but for the moderate temps i heard they were good.

I have had the BPS 100mph for 5-6 years and they work great.  However, the straps on the bibs are stretched out and I have had to have them taken up.  They are about stretched out and have very little elasticity.  I think I will order the Cabelas Guideware this time.

I would consider the Frog Toggs!  You stated you needed something to protect you from the rain and these will do that well and not drain your pocket book.  Should you need more protection from temperature, I usually just put on some lightweight fleece under the Toggs.  I'm not a big user of the Goretex and coated nylons as I don't really think they breath nearly as well as the Toggs.   Give them a try with some fleece and use the rest of your money on fishing equipment!  Good luck!

If the Columbia you have is supposed to be water proof instead of water resistant or weather resistant, than I would contact Columbia.  They'll send you a new one no problem; their customer service is outstanding.

Frog Toggs are thin, comfortable and inexpensive. They work, but won't last very long. They rip easily.I broke down and bought Cabelas Guidewear this winter.
