XbassmasterX Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 I am in the stage of updating my gear so far what I am keeping / have Atm is.. 6'6" Ml St. Croix premier with 2500 sahara 6'6" glass St. Croix M with Johnny Morris 4000(is a bit heavy and is a older rod) 7' MH Convergence with a Curado 200D My question is what should I look into buying next I was thinking of getting a nice 7' M or MH spinning rod for an all purpose use / all the heavier stuff I could not throw on my ML or should I start getting more techinque spec. with my rods? and what techinque rods should I get if I go with this route thanks for any ideas or comments Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted March 30, 2009 Super User Posted March 30, 2009 A GREAT all-around spinning reel would be the St. Croix Avid AVS68MXF. If you want 7', AVS70MF is a fine rod, too. Match either of these with a Shimano Symetre or Stradic 2500FI and you're set! p.s I also recommend Yo-Zuri Ultra Soft #6 for your new rig. 8-) Quote
XbassmasterX Posted March 30, 2009 Author Posted March 30, 2009 would the AVS68MXF overlap too much with my PS66MLF2 or what differences would you use these this two for? I do agree with the reel choices tho I would probly go with the symetre as the newer stradic dont seem as solid as the older white ones and I have been using Spiderwire and love the stuff but thats for another discussion Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted March 30, 2009 Super User Posted March 30, 2009 No overlap. The 2500FI was awarded ICAST "Best of Class". It is a MUCH BETTER reel than the white one. Many of the features on the FI were previously only available on the Stella. 8-) Quote
XbassmasterX Posted March 30, 2009 Author Posted March 30, 2009 well thats good to hear actually thats GREAt what would you use this rod for then vs. what I would have used my PS66MLF2 for? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted March 30, 2009 Super User Posted March 30, 2009 The ML can be used for a variety of light lures. One specific use would be as a dropshot rod. For the most part, I fish a ML rod when targeting stocker trout and white bass. The AVS68MXF is especially well suited for weightless soft plastics and light jigs. Your glass rod is for treble hook lures. Your MH can be used for heavier lures, like jigs, T-rigged plastics and medium weight swimbaits. This would also be used for Carolina rigging. Both MXF and the MH can be used for buzzbaits and spinnerbaits although I prefer baitcasters for both of these lure classes. 8-) Quote
