dmac14 Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 Alright I have heard great things about both St croix and G Loomis, now I am looking at either the Legend tournament, or an IMX. Its either ~$160 (out of pocket) for the St Croix, or $200 for the IMX? I was orginally looking at the Avid but dont like the hump on the handle. But I also liked the split grip on the St Croix LT. Is there a noticible difference between IMX and an LT? And one more thing does G Loomis offer any good warranty? St Croix's is great and makes me want to lean a little that way. Thanks alot! djmax22 Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 Having owned both the LTB and Loomis rods I would go with the Loomis. No doubt the LTB are awesome rods, but IMO Loomis are a cut above starting with the IMX. Over the last year or so I have sold all of my LTB rods and replaced them with Loomis. I have found the new LTB series to be slightly tip heavy, and Loomis to be a tad more sensitive. Loomis customer service is second to none (although St Croix has treated me well too). Earlier this year I received a Loomis directly from the factory and there was a little rough spot due to the cork filler, not big deal. I called Loomis and they offered to switch it out immediately no questions asked. Two days later the replacement arrived at my door. Their Xpeditor service for broken rods is great too. You can't go wrong with either company and I am sure you will be happy with whatever you decide. I would suggest going to Cabelas/BPS and checking out which models you are interested in before committing to a rod. Quote
Big O Tires Angler Posted March 15, 2009 Posted March 15, 2009 I agree that the LTB rods are tip heavy. I ended up returning the 7' Teaser rod because it just wouldn't balance with any of my reels (Chronarch D or Revo STX). Quote

Yeap, I had the same problem , the sweeper spinnerbait wouldn't balance with any reel that I had, and the Big Jig rod was ridiculously tip heavy. The two rods that I did like was the Big Gulp flippin stick and the Carolina rig (older full grip model). Losing all of the cork for the split grip models seem to upset the rods balance. I am sure that there are people that love their LTB rods, but after making the switch to Loomis (although you can't compare the GLX to the LTB) I will never go back. Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted March 15, 2009 Super User Posted March 15, 2009 all baitcast rods are somewhat tip heavy.since a properly balanced rod is balanced at the center of the reel seat the reel has absolutely nothing to do with balance.i balance all my rods with butt weights. Quote

My experience with the LTB series is that they are more tip heavy than any other rod that I have used. How is it my Loomis rods balance almost under the reel seat to an inch above the nut depending on the models and reel used? My Dobyns rod is perfect right under the reel seat. My Lamiglas balances an inch above the reel seat. Why do people like to use a heavier reel to balance out flipping sticks? Obvious the reel weight does play a role in balancing the rod unless you build a custom which would be awesome. Perhaps our rod builders will be able to answer this better. Quote
Super User South FLA Posted March 15, 2009 Super User Posted March 15, 2009 What about the mojo? I love it. Mojo rods are good, but fish an IMX or a Legend Tournament for a day and you'll modify your comment. To get to the original question its a toss up, great rods though. I love my IMX custom. Quote

Definitely go with the IMX, they're amazing rods and like others said, loomis really backs their product. Quote

Your probably right, if I could afford an IMX I would have one and probably wouldn't have settled for a Mojo. I fish for fun man, that's it and this rod is fun and a lot cheaper. Also I didn't even say in my original post that it was better than the other two aforementioned rods, I said "I have a Mojo and I love it", why not consider it, so no I won't be modifying my previous comment. Thanks though Quote
gabes Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 Replacing a G Loomis if it is damaged or broken is very easy and fast. I have had to replace two in the last year and they send a new one in 2-3 days for $60. Great rods and great service. Quote
