I am undecided on these 2 reels.

Pflueger - President 6735x, more so the 6740x

Shimano - Sahara sh3000fd

Both felt wonderful to me, I have only had experience with a sedona in the past, when it comes to both brands. There is a $20 difference in the two. I cannot seem to find others to best suite me. The reason for the 2 selected.

If you've read anything here, I'm sure you've seen how loyal Shimano folks are. Myself, I have a President in both sizes. I prefer the smaller 35, but love them. Most President owners seem to feel the same. So I say the Pres; but you will probably will be happy with either.

You might want to consider the 35 Supreme at $ 99.00. It is a bit lighter. The Sahara is alos a good reel. I can not speak for the President.

Sahara, hands down.  A very well built reel.

my vote is for the pflueger. i had the 40 size and it was a touch too big for my liking. felt good until you had it in your hand all day. i traded it to a buddy that fishes for cats. but i have never seen another reel that stands that tall for the price!

I'd also check ebay for last year's Shimano Symetre, either the 2500FI or 4000FI if you need a larger reel.

I would go with the pflueger. I have two Presidents and two Trion's and I love all of them. The 35 is perfect for Bass fishing.

I agree with the above - you'll be happy with either. The new Sahara is very nice. The Presidents, as much so. I have the older Symetre and a 4735 Trion and like them both. If you have the rod to match it up with, take it in & mount both as you will get a better feel for each one on YOUR rod.

I have several presidents and they are amazing reels for the price but I have had problems with all of them after a year or two of use (and I take care of my reels). I haven't used a sahara but if its as well built as             J Fancho and Raul say, then I would go with the shimano. Like I said, pflueger makes very good reels at an excellent price but I have had durability issues with every pflueger reel that I've owned (which has been 5 or 6).

I've fished both reels.  If they were the same price I'd give a slight nod to the Sahara because to me, the drag seemed to be ever so slightly smoother when it breaks loose.  But since they AREN'T the same price, I'd choose the President & better spend that $20.

I saw several people comment on how well made the Sahara is, so I chose to get a hold of some info (don't ask how).  Through most of the major retailers...  what % of the SH2500FD & 6730X are getting returned by purchasers this year so far?  I'd like to see guesses.  This doesn't prove which is made better, but it does give a picture of how many people decided not to keep each reel after buying it.  Let's see what % you guys think on each one.

I too would get the Sahara.  Not a Shimano Castingreel fan(ABU Posse) but like their spinning reels.

Thanks a ton fellas. I stopped by Sportsmans warehouse, and picked up a Shimano Symetre 2500. lol, over my budget. I am satisfied with my purchase. Next on the list is a good 6'6" rod.

Once again, thank you all for your help..

Both have an aluminum frame.

It looks like you all agree I made a wise decision. That makes me feel better on my purchase.

As far as rods go, I am stumped. I really want to stay around $60, but I am liking the Shimano crucial rods. What to do..... What are some good options to mate the Symetre 2500.
