The regular 50 or the cte50gt?  There's about $125 difference between the two which I'm not worried about as long as the xtra 125 is really worth it.

Any opinions, preferably from those have this reel.

Thanks.

I've had a CT50A for about 10-12 years now and have used the CTE50GT on several occasions; the biggest difference you will notice is gear ratio. At 5.0:1 the CT50 is ideally suited for slow rolling spinner baits which is what I use mine for but when I use it for Texas rigs in windy situations I spend more time turning the handle than I would with a higher ratio. The CTE50GT is absolutely smoother and the 6.2:1 gear ratio is better suited for most any application but is the extra price worth it, that's in the eye of the beholder.

Thank you Catt, I too fish T-Rig 90% of the time and find 5.0:1 a bit slow so yes, the extra cabbage is worth it. The GT will be the one.

Thanks,

Doug

Get the gt model if the money really isn't a problem. You will love it. I have a 200 TE GT and 2 200 TE and absolutely love them and you'll never be caught up in the what if upgrade cycle. I have a regular 200, had I known I was going to like the GT so much I probably wouldn't have bought it. I would have just saved up and waited and made the GT my first purchase.

The CTE50/51 are discontinued reels, get yourself the 50TE, they are very fine reels. I dearly love my CTE51GT, after you get the first one, get yourself another spare one before they are all gone. :D

Well, I got the GT50.  I'm was a bit worried about line capacity v.s the regular 50 but I'll manage.  I need to buy stock in Shimano as this purchase makes my 6th Calcutta.

Same here, I have 2-51's, 2-101's, and a 401. There are some deals floating around on these reels, bought my 101's at Gander Mountain for $199.99, the 401, also at Gander for $249.99. The 51's were $279 at a small tackle shop down on the coast. The 51's are my favorite with 8lb line on a Shimano Cumara medium rod.  ::D
