I am considering getting a energy pti-A (last years model) cabelas has them on closeout right now.  I have always used shimano in the past. How do the sizes compare from 1 to the other.  Is the energy 30 about the same as the shimano 3000?  Cabelas has them for $90 with free shipping, is there anywhere selling them cheaper?

I know why not just stick with shimano?  Well, why not try something different?  Just thought I would branch out and try something else.  At that price I think it is worth a shot.

check cabelas free shipping as i found there is a minimum order amount to get the free shipping! i love all my quantums. i have the tour30, energy20, and this years catalyst20ptib. i have tried others and havent found another real i like as much. especially on sale!!! i have heard others bash them but i dont think they actually gave them a fair shot. just my opinion.

I had 2 energy pti-a 20s for about a year and half.  They both worked great but both at about the same time developed problems.  I thought I had one of greatest reels of all time when I fished them.  They both felt great, smooth and built like a tank.  But in the end, maybe I fished them to hard.  They both had problems with the bail and when I reeled in a bait quickly and tried to stop, the reels would just keep spinning and then lock up.

I would test out the ones you're looking at and spin the reels quickly and see if they stop.

I use size 20 for all my sm bass fishing. I have 6 Energy's and 3 Catalyst and have had no problems, I left Shimano reels six years ago because of service. I still use Shimano rods, Compre's and Crucial"s

I have an older model Quantum Incyte 30, a Quantum Catalyst PTI-A20 and the New Kinetic PTI-B20 and haven't had any problems with them at all. The Incyte is actually an older model that is Blue and not the newer silver one. The one complaint I have heard is the weight difference and that the Quantums are heavier than the shimanos and other reels. So the new models are much lighter but I still love my older models.

I think I will buy one too.  That is a good deal,  I have an older energy and a 20 & 30 PTi from last year and 2 BC reels as well both quantum 570 something I think - they are all great.

I own a stradic and my wife has a PTi20 (thanks uncle leo). The quantum actually feels smoother than the stradic. I have only fished the stradic and it is a great reel. I can not attest for the the durability of either because I just got them this season. I will agree with everyone about the weight difference. It is definitely noticeable. All I can say is that the quantum comes out of the box smoother than the stradic. For the price I do not think you could go wrong, plus they look sweet!

I just purchased one today, a size 30 which I think is around the size of a 35 Pflueger...sorry, don't fish shimano spinning....which is around the size I was looking for, my other is a size 40 President but wanted a bit smaller.  I have an Incyte that I love...it's a size 10 that I use for crappie and bluegill so I wouldn't expect anything less form an energy. The free shipping is over at 11pm tonight and is for over $175...I bought an Asaro that was also on closeout which is why I was looking at the bargain cave in the first place.

Only other place you might find them cheaper is on Ebay. BPS was clearing them out but they were slightly. I see Cabelas has last years Tour Edition for $119 and haven't seen those any chearper anyplace
