trying to pick which reel for light t-rigs and jigs ... here are the options im thinking: scorpion mg 1000 (dont want the non mg because i cant stand the color of it haha), alpha type r, or daiwa advantage -hsta.  Which would you think best

For what you want it for I wouldn 't go for the Advantage.

Tough choice between the two JDM, I 've got both and can 't decide between which I like more.

Weight wise they are about the same, both handle light baits very well, the Type F doesn 't have clicking star drag but the drag is more powerful and slightly smoother than the one in the Scorpion Mg; the Alphas has HEG and one extra bearing under each knob .....

Truthfully, I think the subtle and slight advantages (if any) a JDM may offer in this department may not be full appreciated, along with the fact that there will be NO WARRANTY on a JDM reel.

If I were you, I would take a long hard look at a Shimano CH50Mg or Daiwa Sol for throwing light plastics.  Both are available here, have excellent warranty and service, and will last you a lifetime if well cared for.

The BEST light bait bait caster there is is the Daiwa Pixy NOTHING and I MEAN NOTHING!!!! can compete with them in the light bait area... I bought Pixys and OMG they will throw anything from 1/16th and up awesome the next choice would be a TD-Z with a ZPI MG spool and sic bearings truely about the only thing that can compete with the pixy and 3rd would be a Alphas... remember this tho adding SIC bearings on any reels spool with make them throw lighter baits a little more easy.. TD-X 103's are good choices too and easy to find on ebay

i wont be able to buy this reel until the first week in may so i have a feeling i wont be able to get a hold of the CHmg50 ... the sol is a 5.-.- gear ratio with a 23 inches per turn, i thought with a worm/jig reel you wanted a faster reel to reel in the slack so wouldnt that rule out the sol... on tackle tour they said the advantage hsta (the factory supertuned one) is suppose to be great with the light lures and has a faster gear ratio, and has the magforce-z vs. v of the sol... for those who said patriarch is it a suitable reel for light worm/jig fishing

Magforce Z is inferior to Magforce V with light lures.

The Alphas and the Sol have the same IPT, it 's basically the same reel.

Yes the Pixy is THE finesse baitcaster per excellence only troubles of that reel are:

1.- The availability, since it was discontinued there has been a boom in the popularity of the reel, nowdays they are not easy to find, when you do happen to find one it 's going to be in not the greatest condition and still the asking price is going to be in the $200+ a piece.

2.- New in box Pixys have become very expensive, asking price for an NIB starts in the $350+ .... if you can find one

3.-  The spool capacity is limited, the reel is for 6-8 lbs test line, go to 10 lbs and the ammount of line it can hold plummets to the floor.

4.- The drag is anything but powerful, very good, very smooth drag but for light lines, try to get more drag power you will have to upgrade and add components the reel doesn 't have .... components that are not that easy to find.

I know the Pixy, the Scorpion Mg and the Type F because I have them.

Now, you want a light reel, with good drag, with better line capacity, capable of casting light lures ----> TDZ 105H ..... if you can find one too.

Francho is correct, comparable to the Type F and to the Scorpion Mg you have the Sol and the Chronarch Mg; from those I would choose the Sol ( and I love my Ch Mg ), it may be heavier but the finish is by far a lot more durable.

10 years ago, that was "high speed."  20 years ago, all you had were 3:1.  In other words, if you think you're missing fish because of slack line, use less slack, and don't blame the reel.

Not really, I use my Alphas and Pixys for worming/jigging.

I agree with J Franco and Raul.  I use my Sol for finesse jigs the majority of time it's on the water.  In fact, I love the fact that the IPT is a few numbers slower, as this prevents me from over-working my bait.  If I'm going finesse, which is a lot of the time, I'm going slow.  The slower reel helps me in this capacity.
