I've used this line for years and I know a lot of you do to.  What does the P stand for??

I'm bored at work and these types of dumb questions pop into my head from time to time!! :)

P is for Pucci, the last name of the family that owns the company.

I would have guessed performance

X2, that's what I always assumed it stood for

X3, that or Perfect Line is what I initally thought it stood for.

And how is that, or could that be pronouned?

Probably better they just stuck with P-Line. ;D

I always thought the 'P' should stand for "ploy"-line or "prank"-line. Quite possibly one of the best marketing campaigns ever created in the history of fishing. Slap a 10# label on a spool of 20# line and advertise how strong your line is. Once watched a seminar here where Dion Hibdon tried to explain this to the crowd, and the poor folks just didn't get it. "Yeah, but Dion, I'll straighten hooks with my 15# P-line before the stuff breaks!". ;D Maxima did it first, but P-line did it better!

So you fish spider silk that measures in around 0.0000001" and has a breaking strength of 50 lbs.?

The diameter of PLine CXX isn't all that different from other manufacturers comparable products.

PLine CXX 10 lb. - 0.014"

Berkley Trilene 100% Flourocarbon 10 lb. - 0.012"

Sufix Elite 10 lb. - 0.012"

Yo-Zuri Hybrid 10 lb. - 0.012"

Silver Thread AN40 10 lb. - 0.011"

PLine 10 lb. = anyone else's 20 lb.?   :-?

If your 20 lb. test is 0.014" in diameter, then it isn't worthy of the rating.

Let's compare apples to apples and keep the braid out of it 8-)

The diameters don't look all that different until you think in terms of percentages. Using your numbers above, P-line is 17% - 27% thicker than all other lines you list. ;)

Here's a more encompassing list of line diameters for spools rated as 10# test by the manufacturer:

P Line CXX extra strong, crystal clear .0145

Berkely Big Game Hi Test Electric Green .014

Makima Ultragreen .014

Maxima Chameleon .014

Trilene XT .0135

Gamma Copolymer Competition Grade .013

Stren Original .013

Sufix Tritanium Plus .013

Trilene Maxx .013

Yozuri Hybrid .0125

Stren Extra Strength .012

P Line CFX 100% Floro leader .012

P Line Floroclear Copolymer .012

Cabela's Pro Line Low Vis Green .012

Cajun Red .012

Ande green .012

Sufix Seige .012

Izorline XXX Super Copolymer .012

Izorline Platinum .012

Sufix Elite .012

Big Game clear .012

P Line Evolution .011

Stren Magnathin .011

Seaguar Fluoro 100% leader .010

Any guesses as to whose 10# line out of the bunch breaks highest at over 22# ??? :)

If you guessed P-line CXX, you might be a winner !!! ;D

Any correlation to the fact that it is the largest diameter 10# line on the market ???

Most all companies are guilty of doing it to some degree as there is no standard for how you label your line as to breaking strength. It's purely subjective and up to the discretion of the manufacturer. P-line is really good stuff and as mentioned, I use CXX, Fluoroclear and their pure fluorocarbon lines at times. All I'm saying is don't brag about how your P-line is the strongest stuff out there without a little realization and recognition as to why.

I'd rather see a comparison of break strengths by line diameter.  That would truly be "apples to apples."

8# CXX is 0.012".  Want to bet what 0.012" line has the highest break strength?

BTW, what is the deal with all the leader materials included?

Not to ruffle any feathers but a quick search revealed at .014" diameter you can get:

14lb. Trilene XL

14lb. Trilene Sensation

12lb. Trilene XT

12lb. Trilene Big Game. You can pull stumps with this stuff.

12lb. Yo-Zuri Hybrid (.013")

12lb. Suffix Elite

12lb. Suffix Seige.

I'm sure there are more examples.

At about the same thickness, P-Line CXX does seem either too thick or under rated. 14-15% difference is pretty big. What if your taxes jumped that much... ooops. Won't go there.

JMHO.
