Super User Wayne P. Posted March 17, 2009 Super User Posted March 17, 2009 The one piece frames just keep all the parts aligned better when the reel is under stress. Quote
andamtoft Posted March 17, 2009 Posted March 17, 2009 I have two of the silver maxes and i absolutely love them. They cast light baits miles and are extremely smooth. I fished the heck out of them last year and they are still in perfect working condition. so far no complaints at all. for that price i don't believe there is a better reel, especially if you need a rod too, go to dicks and they have a combo of the reel and rod for 60 with a $20 mail in rebate. also, you can print a spend 50 get 10 off so it ends up being 30 for both the rod and reel. Highly recommend it! Quote
triwbass Posted March 18, 2009 Author Posted March 18, 2009 where can you print this at ? ill use it Quote
ejtaylor822 Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 The one piece frames just keep all the parts aligned better when the reel is under stress. 2x - the one-piece metal frame is much stronger as compared to frames that are pieced/mated together. Graphite frames are typically lighter and hold up pretty well but do not hold up to stresses as well as a solid metal frame. A couple of my saltwater spinning reels are graphite frames; little lighter and feel nice. They were also a little less expensive. Quote
andamtoft Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 Here is the dicks coupon: http://dcsg.qualtrics.com/SE/?u1=851764-2-0-&SID=SV_eLP5EFgl3Wn7PTK&SVID=Prod . the mail in rebate comes attached to the rod! Quote
triwbass Posted March 18, 2009 Author Posted March 18, 2009 thx andamtoft say you have the silvermax,, what is the drag power or have you caught any big fish i want this to put on a carolina rig rod and ill do some style of flipping or pitching with braid on it i figure in thast application the line and rod fight the fish,,, i already know from the promax i have the max series reels cast farther than just about any reel at all,,,im only concerned about the drag i had a blackmax and caught several 3-5lb fish on it with no trouble at all,,,,anf the promax can horse them is as well ,,,guess i shouldnt let price deterine my choices as these max reels have worked flawlessly Quote
andamtoft Posted March 18, 2009 Posted March 18, 2009 yeah i caught many in the 2-3 pound range like it was nothing and even a couple near that 5 pound range with out the slightest of problems. Quote

EJ, they haven't disintegrated yet? ;D LOL - no. they are still hanging in there. When they do fall apart though I am only out $40. They are the Cabela's Salt Strikers. Not a bad deal, IMHO. Given that I am in the surf a dozen times a year though I expect them to last another season or two..... Truthfully though, they have really held up well. With my gear I am pretty gentle and use utmost care. However, when it comes to the surf, I am pretty rough. I am the one you see out there up to my waist/chest heaving out to the breaks - when I am casting only and not casting and watching a bottom rigged pole in a sand spike as well. Needless to say, when I come back after casting in the surf the reels are nasty. Wash them off real well, put a little hot sauce/lube on them and good as new. Highly recommend. I have been using one of the 3000's on a spinning rod and is doing well. Eddie Quote
21farms Posted March 19, 2009 Posted March 19, 2009 ...do they just last longer or is it performance also? yes, it is both. one-piece aluminum frames stay rigid and hold the gears in perfect alignment, especially under load, and will always feel solid. i have a promax (actually, a very nice reel!) but after a few hours of fishing, it gets a little noisy and isn't as smooth. you'll still catch fish regardless.
