Probably the best cheap mono I have used.  I used it for many years tournament fishing.  I think it is fine to use if you respool often.  I changed line line for every tournament and never had a break-off.  It is not as abrasion resistant as some of the other lines out there but is cheap.

I have not had any bad experiences with it...well with the exception of the fact that it doesn't have the best manageability.  Very strong and abrasion resistant.  I use the clear blue florescent for night fishing and the 12lb is the best cheap line I have used.  Very reliable and a great value for the price.

Well, The stuff I saw  went 8.99 for 6lb, 1500yds, About what some of the berkely brands were selling for. It came In a clear blue; So, I'm wondering if I could possibly use it for light finesse? Ex...Dropshots..

Ck the yards of line on the brands(excal and others).  If the same yardage on Stren, Trilene, and other top brands as the Excal I would buy one of Stren.  Personal preference but I never liked Trilene.

Last summer I accidentally bought excel instead of the XPS signature series mono and I didn't realize it until I got home. I figured it would be junky but I decided to give it a try anyway and I was pleasantly surprised with performance. Its definitely a good line for the price.

Then you just need to add the KVD line cond. and spray your spools the night before and that will help the "tough to manage part! :) The KVD line cond. is worth every penny!

Going to vent here but I dont want you to take it personal, Eyedabassman. This isnt directed at you, just the comment in general.

It seems like every time a cheap line is suggested it's followed up with "use line conditioner". Crappy line - use line conditioner. Not just this site. Absolutely every forum I've been to where line is discussed.

I want a line that is manageable out of the box!! I dont want to have to buy another product, worry about the mess and spraying it on every reel every time I go out. Not to mention it getting all over inside my reels. No thanks, I'll buy good quality line out of the box and save myself the hastle.

Rant over.

Again no offense to you Eyedabassman. Please dont take any.

To answer the question, this line is cheap. Manageability is definately an issue. It is not very abrasion resistant either.

Also, I respool often.  Not everyone on here can afford to do that.  I use line that I respool often because I want to, not because I'm afraid of what will happen if I dont.

Hmmmm....  I use KVD on my Sunline Shooter.  It isn't cheap line, but it helps with manageability issues associated with the type of line required for the some of water I fish.

Line choice is always going to be a compromise between price, manageability, and abrasion resistance.

I've never felt compelled to try BPS Excel, but I'd rather go with something I know I can trust.

If you want to simply go with a decent nylon mono, then Trilene XL or Suffix Elite are fine.  You don't need to treat it with a line conditioner to have success, but it makes it all that much better.

That's the thing about KVD, it doesn't discriminate between cheap, bad, good, or excellent lines - it simply makes them all better.

I dont like the Excel brand so much, but I do like a the XPS mono which was surprising good for a couple dollars more.

If you have trouble managing 6 lb. line from any manufacturer, you're doing something wrong.

No problem bud, I understand where you are coming from.I think what J Francho said was perfect. There are so many good lines out there that you could use wright from the spool and be happy. All we are saying is that the KVD cond. makes them all much better. And what I am about to say may open a can of worms but if it were me, I would fish the Gamma, or the Sufix lines if didn't want to treat the line with KVD.
