Super User roadwarrior Posted March 12, 2009 Super User Posted March 12, 2009 Yo-Zuri hybrid or ultra soft for a bait caster? I currently have 12lbs ultra on my Curado but am getting ready to put line on my new 51MG.Thanks, Ultra Soft is more manageable, but that isn't really an issue with baitcasters. Original Hybrid blends better with water so I have gone back to the original formula. For gin clear water, the green blends best; for stained water, smoke. 8-) Quote

Super User roadwarrior Posted March 12, 2009 Super User Posted March 12, 2009 It's fine in both clear and stained water and I still have some on one rig. I just like the looks of green and smoke better on the reels! Really though, I don't think it makes much difference one way or the other. 8-) Quote

adclem Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 Just picked up some at the local BPS, got a spool of the green, didn't have the smoke color and also found an 1/8lbs spool in clear for $4.88 couldn't pass it up. Quick question RW, when you say you soak your line in KVD L&L, do you just apply with a towel as you spool it up or do you spray it on the spool isteslf as you spool it up or what is the technique you use. Thanks, Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted March 13, 2009 Super User Posted March 13, 2009 No towel, that's not necessary, but it might be more economical! When spooling, I spray some on every 10-15 cranks, moving the spool with my fingers to get "both sides". 8-) Quote
Tokyo Tony Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 I've used both of these lines, and these are my observations: US is stronger than FC, has less stretch (so is more sensitive), and is more abrasion-resistant. FC is more invisible than US and much more manageable. However, it is just about as stretchy as mono. I guess it depends where your priorities lie. My priorities with line are sensitivity and strength, so I prefer US to FC. However, as others have said, make SURE you use KVD Line Conditioner, letting it sit overnight. Without the conditioner, US is a real hassle to use, even the 6 lb line on a spinning rig. That said, I use almost 100% Power Pro 8-) Quote
SWMIBASSER Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 I know I keep repeating this post but for the life of me I can't figure how ANYone has problems with memory/manageability using the Y/Z Hybrid. At least in 8lb test, I had ZERO problems with it, even on a small spooled 8030 Supreme. And I just did remove the line it's been setting on that spool for months. Still no memory..... Shrug/ Quote
daviscw Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 I've had better success wth the FC over YZ Hybrid. I know i will get beaten down for this comment, but the KVD Line Conditioner seemed to actually stiffen my line if I didn't use it every single trip on the Hybrid. My line was decent without it though. I like Trilene 100% over anything though, and I can tell the difference with the conditioner on it. Quote

zelmo Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 Are those 1/8 and 1/4 lb. spools a promotion, or will they continue? My local BPS doesn't have any, and the online selection is sparse. Does any other store carry them? Quote
adclem Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 Our local BPS carries them, but they hard to find. They sell out of them as quickly as they get them in. I have only seen them in clear and smoke color. I have not seen them in other stores for the $4.88 price that BPS has them at. Later, Quote
