-nick- Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 These lines say they are a copolymer flourocarbon? Or something like that. What exactly does this mean? Does it have the same qualities as flourocarbon? Do you use it as you would a regular flourocarbon line? Quote
bass wrangler569 Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 Its not 100% fluorocarbon, its just fluorocarbon coated. I'm sure some other guys can give you more technical explanations. I will tell you I am a huge fan of P-Line fluoroclear!!! With the exception of my flipping rod (50lb power pro) all my reels are spooled with fluoroclear. Ā Quote
Bassaholic84 Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 They are floro coated. Ā They are more like a mono than floro IMO. Ā I guess there a mix between the two. Ā If you are looking for a floro i have heard the new Spiderwire 100% is the easiest casting and manageable floro. Ā Again that is just what ive heard i am planning on buying some this weekend but have not used it yet..... I will post when i have tested it. Quote
-nick- Posted February 25, 2009 Author Posted February 25, 2009 Well right now I have triline 100% Flouro on all my plastics and jig rods as well as my cranking rod. So do those lines sink and have little memory like flouro or does it float and have a lot of memory like mono? I'm just wondering it I should use it as I would flouro or if i should replace all my mono with it. Quote
skillet Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 Ā I had always used original Stren 12lb and finally decided to change. Wanted to get rid of some of the stretch in mono. Tried 12lb P-line CXX. Couldn't believe how strong it was. Bend Gammi hooks before it breaks . Personally, I thought it had memory problems, looked like a slinky. I've heard if you drop down to 10lb, there's not nearly the memory. That small of a drop really shouldn't hurt the strength. Next, I tried Yo-Zuri Ultrasoft in 12lb. and it's GREAT. I use the 12lb on baitcasters and 6lb on spinning gear. Which ever co-poly you end up trying, you ought to try KVD line conditioner. It REALLY helps... skillet Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 25, 2009 Super User Posted February 25, 2009 P-Line Floroclear is coated. Yo-Zuri Hybrid and Hybrid Ultra Soft are bonded, not coated: http://www.yo-zuri.com/Products/ProdLine/Hybrid.htm 8-) Quote
-nick- Posted February 25, 2009 Author Posted February 25, 2009 So it's pretty much mono with less memory? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 25, 2009 Super User Posted February 25, 2009 No. Hybrid is less visible, in smaller diameters almost invisible. The line is significantly stronger than mono for a given diameter: #12 Hybrid is .013" in diameter, the same as Ande and many other 12 lb test lines. However, the breaking point is 19.5 pounds. http://www.yo-zuri.com/Products/ProdLine/HybridLineChart.htm 8-) Quote

Super User retiredbosn Posted February 25, 2009 Super User Posted February 25, 2009 After doing alot of research on the lines I'm sold on the hybrid. Ā The qualities of the line are numerous, being bonded to the floro results in a closed cell construction and will not weaken when wet like mono, the floro makes the line much more abrasion resistant, it is denser so should cast farther, make cranks run a little deeper, etc. Ā Additionally the thinner diameter to pound breakage results in a more sensitive line, add to that the floro prevents UV rays from braking down the line as quickly. ChiCityBasser Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 Ok just checked the yo-zuri site and I see they recommend the "Ultra Soft" for spinning reels but i don't see it on the BPS site. Hoping it might be in the store but if not I'm thinking of trying the regular in 10# for the Quantum Catalyst PTI-B I will be picking up over the weekend. This sound like a good choice for a spinning reel? Sorry to throw my question in on someone elses thread Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 25, 2009 Super User Posted February 25, 2009 If your local BPS doesn't carry these spools, they can still order them without any shipping cost to you: http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/SearchResults?searchOption=products&hvarSearchString=yo-zuri+hybrid&storeId=10151&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&CMID=TOP_SEARCH_GO&x=11&y=16 #6 original Hybrid will work fine, but BPS doe not carry Ultra Soft. Cabelas is normally where I would pick it up but going to the BPS spring classic this saturday Quote
ChiCityBasser Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 Ok I got the 10# Ultra Soft spooled onto my Quantum KVD20 and had it out yesterday for a bit and the line had more memory and sprayed it with KVD line and lure conditioner last night. I'll be going out again today to see if its any better and report back. Did I go to big with 10# for the spinning? Should I drop it down to 6 or 8lbs for the spinning and use the 10# for the B/C? 21farms Posted March 5, 2009 Posted March 5, 2009 Yo-Zuri Hybrid and Hybrid Ultra Soft are bonded, not coated i think the yo-zuri hybrid lines are actually both: "Yo-Zuri Hybrid is a revolutionary combination of fluorocarbon (PVDF) and nylon. It is extruded under extremely close tolerances to provide uniform diameter and strength. Once extruded, it is actually run through a double finishing process adding another double osmotic coat of fluorocarbon." (not from the yo-zuri website but pretty common in descriptions at many retailers websites) Quote

SWMIBASSER Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 I find it hard to beleive that anyone has issues with memory with the Y/Z. I had zero problems with memory or twist when spooled on Pflueger Supreme's 8030 which is a small spool reel.... Quote

LAO162 Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 In my LIMITED experience, here's what I found with #6 & #12 FC & YZ-US. I did NOT use line conditioner: YZ-US - far stronger, but not enough to prevent me from breaking the line on snags and other operator error situations. - more wind knots, tangles & kinks - my father, who does not pay attention to line type, complained after I switched from FC (sort of a blind test) - not available locally for me PL-FC - not as strong - thinner diameter for similar rating - more manageable, fewer tangles & kinks - better casting - less forgiving to poor knots (P-Line is fair when suggesting a couple extra twists for a cinch know) - less visible in and out of the water - available locally for me I prefer the manageability of FC, but will try UltraSoft again this year, except I will also use line conditioner. Primus Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 I've used both and I prefer the Yozuri over Floroclear, in my mind these lines are more like mono than a 100% florocarbon line. I like the Yozuri for topwater, shallow cranks & spinnerbaits but I prefer an all Florocarbon line for soft plastics and jigs. Quote

I like the Yozuri for topwater, shallow cranks & spinnerbaits but I prefer an all Florocarbon line for soft plastics and jigs. Couldn't have said it better. I have used both and like both but if you can get the size Yo-Zuri you are looking for in 1/8 or 1/4 lb. spools, you can't beat that. I have all the line I need for the next few years. Now if only 100% flouro prices would start coming down... Quote
bigmountaineer Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 I used the Yo Zuri Hybrid line for a while, and it performed well. Now I'm looking to get the Ultra Soft from Cabelas. Quote
adclem Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 Yo-Zuri hybrid or ultra soft for a bait caster? Ā I currently have 12lbs ultra on my Curado but am getting ready to put line on my new 51MG. Thanks, Quote
