The extreme is actually a pretty solid built reel.

Aluminum frame, bearings in all the right places, and the dual braking works pretty well.

What kind of quality are the bearings? I don't know. But I have to assume they aren't any worse than anything else out there.

I've got a bunch of pictures of this reel broke down as I was thinking about doing a write up on how to strip down a BPS reel. If you wanna see what they look like on the inside I can post em up.

I've been an ABU fan since a kid, but in my mind the Extreme gets the nod for a smoother reel with dual braking, and solidly built consruction

I am a HUGE fan of the Extreme.  I don't think the Extreme can be beat for the money-even though they raised the price a little this year.

I had the chance to fish with an Elite Pro, and I was not sure my setup was good for spinnerbaits (i am kinda new), so the Pro made some casts with it, and was very impressed with the quality.  Then when I told him the low price for the combo for  he was even more impressed.

I've used both.

The Extreme is a much better reel.  Aluminum construction.  It feels like a tighter reel and more solid than the plastic Silver Max.  The only really good thing I can say about the Silver Max reels is they cast a country mile with ease.

I own and use both and personally I like the SilverMax better.  The SilverMax casts further and easier, and it seems to be more durable and made of better components.  Once the Extremes wear out I will replace them with Abu Garcias.

I have 2 Extremes and one SilverMax.

Extreme hands down in every way.

Also, it's on sale at BPS in store for under $60.00.

Can't beat that. If you want to check the bearings, turn spool control knob all they way loose and turn off whatever braking the reel has and give the spool a good spin. I did this last night and the Extreme spun much longer than the Abu.

Here are a few pictures of the reel broken down.

I like Abu, but I'd go with the Extreme, too.  They have very good reputations.   From what I've seen, it's an extremely nice reel for the money.  Value-wise, it's unbeatable.

if the extreme can cast with the silvermax then its a heck of a reel,,,i fishes with a silvermax about 10 different times last year on a 6'6 crankbait rod with 10 lb cajun red cast ,,,farthest ive ever thrown a 1/4 oz crankbait and other people took notice,,,,, oh yeah i was in a stocked pond with where i caught close to 10 fish in excess of 5lbs and the silvermax reels them in just fine,,,,, i will admit though it doesnt reel as smooth as my revo s or revo sx but then again we get what we pay for

i'll have to agree. i have/had lots of nice, higher-end reels (curado Es, fuegos, revos, etc.) but i also have a black max and a pro max and those things can flat out cast! i'm at a total loss to explain why they can cast farther than anything else i have, including the revos. i even think the magtrax magnetic brakes work better than the linear magnetic brakes on the revo SX...not at all fussy and very efffective.

that being said, given the choice, always go for the reel with the solid, one-piece aluminum frame; it'll be smoother, more solid and will last you longer. the extremes have that, the garcia maxes don't. besides, the extremes are good reels.

I can't comment yet on the castability of the Extreme. But the Prolite has the same dual braking system, and it's amazing how that reel casts.

My extrem doesn't seem to cast all that far, but then I'm still learnin how to use a baitcaster again.. :)

Also I'm gonna do the EBEC7 bearing upgrade and hope that helps the distance.
