LAO162 Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 I'm looking for a short casting rod to match a Shimano Chronarch MG 50. Figuring that the MG 50 is so light, I'm thinking that I should be looking for a light, finesse type rod. Lure range from 1/5 to 5/8. Fast action. The Powell 633 CEF at <3.4 oz seems like a good match (but it is being discontinued The 6'3" Zillion looks fantastic, but might be out of my budget My default rod is a 6'6" MHF Techna AV that weighs < 4.2 oz. You suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!!! Quote

Matt Jungblut Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 carrot stix Gold you want light and strong its the lightest out there and a awesome warranty 21CRG621M-F-CW its a 6.2 Med fast tip and weighs 3.0 ozs i have that very rod i used it the other weekend and only fished for maybe an hour but i wasnt real impressed with the rod i dont think its as sensitive as they claim it is my all time favorite rod was my 724 imx g-loomis rod this is a heavy action rod 1\4 oz -1 oz but it sure didnt fish like a heavy rod but had all the power u need when the time came that u needed it i also had my mg 50 on the rod if your on a budget i would look in to g-blank rod and i have had 3 of them u can pick and choose how u want it what blank eyelets handle length split grip Quote
lowe160 Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 That's easy, CRC-63M Shimano Crucial at 3.6 oz's!! I have a new Curado CU200e7 married to one and it is a sweet set up. Quote
LAO162 Posted March 12, 2009 Author Posted March 12, 2009 Thanks, I have the 6'3" MXF Spinning version of the Crucial. It's a nice little rod. If there was a 6'0" Cumara I'd have it already I've toyed with the idea of a G-Blanks rod, but I'm afraid I'll get caught up in the upgrade/customizing aspect Leon Quote
ThomasL Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 For the size of that reel i'd lean to a gloomix cr721 imx,6' 3/16-1/2 oz lures,6-12 lb line, would be a really good match, that is what the reel was intended for, lighter weight baits. Quote
LAO162 Posted March 12, 2009 Author Posted March 12, 2009 Thannks Thomas, naturally an IMX would be my first choice. Unfortunately, my wallet thinks otherwise Stupid recession So, I'm trying to convince myself that I should go with something very light - if it can be found at a "very light" price Quote
Jo Jo Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 I guess I would ask why so short a rod? Rod length would be only a consideration for your heighth. The Carrot stix are awewome. I have two of the ltx version. You can find them for around 129 online. the shortest in the ltx is 6'6. but they are sensative and i am going to replace all my all stars with them. i am using the team sbr1 and sbr2 rods, 6'4 and 6'8 respectively. the rods are great but need the carrot stix jmo Quote
