crappiekid24 Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 Looking to get a baitcaster for T-rigs, jigs and possibly senkos this year. I was looking to spend no more then $130. The Citica is in my price range but I am looking to see what other options there are. I would be willing to possibly spend up to $200 for a combo. Needs to be lefty. Thanks! Quote
Uncle Leo Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 For your $200.00 price range you can not go wri=ong with the Citica. You may want to look at pairing it with a St Croix Mojo. Great rod for $ 90.00. Will take you a bit over but that would be a sweet outfit. Quote
bassinfla82 Posted March 10, 2009 Posted March 10, 2009 the Daiwa Tierra is 130.00 its a really nice reel holds up for years and cast really good handles light baits 1/8oz well and any thing over 1/8oz it will cast a mile the cast control on it is really good Magforce V is awesome... I fish nothing but Daiwa reels and have fished only daiwa for A LONG time.. to me they are FAR more advanced then any other brand of reels.. My wife uses a Tierra when she hopes in the boat with me and she loves it... she also has a Zillion and a Zillion HLC (Hyper long cast 540.00) and she really likes her tierra she uses it alot because its easier to cast then her super tuned Zillion HLC (Less backlashes for her) its not as smooth nor does it have the casting distance of her zillions but it is more easy to cast then them and has held up VERY well! another reel to look at is the Daiwa TD-Pro you can only get it at Bassproshops it has 11+1 Bearings!!! its 99.99!! it has ALUM face a side plate Daiwas swept handle with bearings in the knobs!! and its very smooth it has a Wiffle spool and Magforce Z and it looks pretty darn sweet too! Also Daiwa has two sizes in reels Small and Smaller they palm so easy and are very comfortable reels if you got 200 bucks Like the other fella said a Mojo stick for 90-95 dollars would be a REALLY nice rod for the price and 99 for the TD-PRO and you got a really sweet rig for under 200 and basspro has the TD-PROs on sale all the time for 70-80 dollars! check them out im sure you will like them! Super User roadwarrior Posted March 10, 2009 Super User Posted March 10, 2009 Well, the Citica is a great reel that will perform flawlessly for years, maybe forever! However, unless you find a great deal in our Flea Market, you will need to wait awhile on the combo. Your soft plastics/ jig rod should be your best, most sensitive piece of equipment. You are going to have to spend more if you buy retail. Keep an eye on the Flea Market and you can probably by the Citica cheaper, too. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted March 10, 2009 Super User Posted March 10, 2009 I just refurbished an original CI200 - THAT HAD NEVER BEEN CLEANED! When did these come out - '91? Underneath all the grit, grime, dried grease, mildew, and God knows what that chunk of stinky stuff was, was an amazingly smooth retrieving and easy to cast reel. In fact, aside from a little boat rash, and dated styling, it looked like a reel that was only a few years old. Get a new one, if you have the means. Quote
crappiekid24 Posted March 10, 2009 Author Posted March 10, 2009 I have put together a list of the reels I am considering. Shimano Citica CI201E Daiwa Tierra TDTR153HL Daiwa Exceler EX100SHL Cableas Prodigy PRC201 Abu Garcia Revo S-L I know the Citica is a good reel but what about the other reels. What would you recommend besides the Citica and is there another reel I should look at? Thanks Quote

FishingPirate Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 This might be pushing your budget but Ive had a Daiwa Viento for a little under four years and use it for jigs and some t-rigs. As long as you dont get any dirt in it (like I did) it will work very well. If you dont want to spend that, the Daiwa Megaforce is a lot cheaper and still works well, although not quite as smooth. The_Natural Posted March 11, 2009 Posted March 11, 2009 I'd get the Citica and a Compre/Mojo/or Quantum Tour Edition PT rod. All are about equal in sensitivity IMHO. The citica will cast light weight jigs with ease...I casted 1/4oz Lucky Craft BDS cranks all day with mine. Quote

What would you recommend besides the Citica and is there another reel I should look at? Thanks The Tierra is the only reel in that list that is on par with the Citica. the Prodigy is essentially the Tierra with some added, unnecessary eye candy. There is one other option, a Black Widow II, for $99.99 at Tackle Warehouse. Its basically a Tierra with an extra bearing, and a sweet paint job. Quote
Super User Shane J Posted March 11, 2009 Super User Posted March 11, 2009 I just bought a Pfleuger Trion (lefty), and am extremely happy with it. The other one I was considering was the Abu Revo (also available in lefty). I had the same intended uses as you do, and the same budget. Good luck Quote
