Just bought 4 of the new Quantum tour editions and so far love them will have to see how they hold up.

I am a big fan of the new Quantum reels. I think that they are heading in a better direction with their new lineup. However, the best reel I have ever fished with was a 50mg. If I had the choice I would said the 50mg any day of the week. I am not brand loyal, I use what I think is best suited for my needs. The 50mg is the best I have ever used, hands down.

Wow! Either you love Shimano or you're a hater. I think they are both good reels. Pick each up, put it on a rod and see how they feel.

You'll be the one using it. Now, BMW or Mercedes.

;D

We have a designated section to address any issue you might have

or information you need. Post the problems you are having with the

CH50MG and let's see if they can't be resolved.

BTW, Welcome aboard!

I doubt that many on this board have fished with the new energy (I have not), but rather are just promoting Quantum b/c they are brand loyal.  I do know several people on this board that love their MGs. I can only speak for the MG, I have 3 of them and believe this is one of the best reels Shimano has ever made. The question you need to ask yourself is do you want a proven product or take a chance on a new reel (that could be great) from a company that has had known baitcaster durabililty issues.

Get a New Chronarch MG 50 now while they are still available - who knows if you will be able to get this classic NIB in the future.

You can get a great deal on the 2009 Energy this November when they are on closeout ;D ;D ;D

For the Shimano Posse :)

I just dont get this. I've heard a couple of complaints like this with no details surrouding the problem. Just blanket statements. I'd really be curious to see a conversation with you involving Bantam1 to get to the root of the problem.

I have 6 MG50's that I have been fishing hard with for over 3 years. I've muscled smallies in the 4, 5 and 6 lb class on 8 lb test line and NEVER had a problem not caused by my stupidity.

As for the Quantum PT vs MG50 - how can you even make a comparison? Apples and Oranges. MG50 is built for much lighter applications and is much lighter. Wouldnt a better comparison be a PT vs Curado?

Isnt that like comparing a motorcycle to an SUV and asking which one is better? The answer is the same - depends.

P.S.  I'll give you a plug nickel for your used MG50.
