crankbait2009 Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 Help!! i am putting new line on my baitcaster reel. i had the line on the reel perfectly fine. i hit the release button to route the line through all the eyes on the rod and backlash happened right away. do i have to buy new line or can i just take it off and restart? how do i stop this? Stasher1 Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 I usually just back the drag off instead of hitting the button. Quote
Super User burleytog Posted March 7, 2009 Super User Posted March 7, 2009 Reel spool is overfilled or there wasn't enough tension on the filler spool when filling the reel. Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted March 7, 2009 Super User Posted March 7, 2009 You need to learn how to adjust the spool tension knob on the reel side plate. Quote
Super User skunked_again Posted March 7, 2009 Super User Posted March 7, 2009 someone go over and take burleys temp, he must not be feeling well..... :-X Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted March 7, 2009 Super User Posted March 7, 2009 that's one of the problems with flouro.get seguar invizx and spool it on with the line in hot water.let it dry overnight.the next day hook it to a pole and back it up to the end.reel it in while spraying with kvd line and lure.let it dry a couple of hours.you will now have the best casting flouro you can get.either that or buy braid. kms399 Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 tighten your spool tension knob or just loosen your drag. Quote
dave Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 Make sure your filler spool let line out from the top and not the bottom. Maybe line is on upside down? Quote
Super User .RM. Posted March 7, 2009 Super User Posted March 7, 2009 reds_21, No big deal, I do it all the time when I get into a hurry. Has absolutely NOTHING to do with the line brand or makeup. Just tighten the cast control cap down so the spool doesn't free spool (lose spin) when you hit the thumbar. This should give you enough tension to get the line threaded through your guides (if not tighten a little more). Once you get the rod lined out then goto the article on setting up the system for use and you will be casting in no time at all. Just a simple fix and my .02¢ Good Luck & Tight Lines Soon!!!! Quote
crankbait2009 Posted March 7, 2009 Author Posted March 7, 2009 thanks everyone. i have pulle doff the line till the backlashing was gone. i tightened the tension knob and respooled. that knob works wonders!!!! i set the tension knob where it should be now. now my only fear is when i go fishing, im afraid that it will happen again and ill have to cancel fishing for the day. i will definitley look at the article on setting up the system for use. thanks again, had a mild panic attack there :-[ Quote

If it gets to where you can't pull it out you can do this... Quote
