fishing4fun Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 HI, I have not had the opportunity to fish with the Rapala DT Sure set series. I am curious if they have a wide wobble like the Bagley. I am thinking of buying the Pearl Grey Shiner and Chartreuse Purple Shiner in the 06,10 and 16. I am also looking at the DT Fat Sure set series with the square bill for shallow cover as it runs 3'. Any feedback would be appreciated as the bait monkey is calling my name..lol Thanks in Advance Quote
Super User FishTank Posted December 10, 2007 Super User Posted December 10, 2007 I like the DT Sure Set Series but I don't seem to get any better or different results than I do with the regular DT's. If you're picking colors, I like the Pearl Gray and the Bleeding Olive shiner. Quote
Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted December 10, 2007 Super User Posted December 10, 2007 Only difference in the sure set series is color schemes and the stinger trebles.Neither the flat or regular are wide wobbling baits, they have a new DT FAT for that. It is all going to depend on whether you like the sure set hooks or not,if not then just replace them. You can get a pack of VMC or Katus for around 4.00. Search these forums for more opinions on the sure set hooks and dt series,There have been a lot of posts. I cannot at this time make a comparison to bagleys,I dont have any. Quote
Tokyo Tony Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 For the SureSet hooks, I remove the front one and replace it with a normal treble - you'll get less crap on the lure without that long hook hanging down in the middle. I'm a big fan of the squarebill DT flat series. Quote
Guest muddy Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 The major difference is they get caught on: The rug, the deck, the oar locks, the seats, the anchor rope and my pants a lot Quote
Super User FishTank Posted December 10, 2007 Super User Posted December 10, 2007 The major difference is they get caught on: The rug, the deck, the oar locks, the seats, the anchor rope and my pants a lot I didn't think about this but Muddy has a point. I have lost qutie a few of these and they do tend to get hung up on just about everything, including a pair of $$$ Gore-Tex pants I use to have. Quote
flippin Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 ive caught more fish on the dt but i changed the hooks im not a fan of the sure set hooks but its a good bait Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted December 11, 2007 Super User Posted December 11, 2007 the DT Sureset just have better colors IMO. i really like pearl grey shiner color though. its a veryyy nice color. i havent noticed very much difference in hooking abilities w/ the sure set hooks. if there is any difference between regular VMC's and the Suresets, the suresets do hook and hold a little bit better. i say go ahead and get the suresets and see if you like em. normal DT's (including sureset) have a moderate wobble, DT FLATS (including sureset) have a tighter wobble, and DT FATS (including sureset) have a wider wobble. Super User Micro Posted December 11, 2007 Super User Posted December 11, 2007 I like the sure set hooks. I've noticed that when the water gets cold I tend to hook a lot of bass on the side of the face, on the gill plate or pectoral fin. I don't know why that is except that it's apparent bass are striking at the lure somehow differently than they do when it's warm (maybe a lazier strike or a side slap wit their head). I've switched the rear hooks on most of the cranks I use in cold water to sure set hook and my hook up rate (and mouth hooked) has increased. BTW, the fish in my avatar was caught on a DT with normal hooks in cold water. The rear hook was on the outside of the lip and the front hook was in the pectoral fin. Quote
fishing4fun Posted December 11, 2007 Author Posted December 11, 2007 Thanks for all the feedback. Which of the DT's is good for plowing through the weeds? Thanks Quote
Guest avid Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 Thanks for all the feedback. Which of the DT's is good for plowing through the weeds? Thanks Don't know if this is made by rapala, but it will sure cut through those weeds. Quote
lostanother Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 When Im fishing an area with a few weeds I will eliminate the sure set hooks I feel that the tend to hook more of the weeds floating and standing in the water! Quote
fishing4fun Posted December 11, 2007 Author Posted December 11, 2007 ;D ;D Avid does that model come in the Chartreuse Purple Shiner ? lol Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted December 11, 2007 Super User Posted December 11, 2007 fish4fun, none of the DT's are good for plowing thru weeds. no lure except weedless rigged soft baits are good for plowing thru weeds. they will allllll catch weeds. if you must fish weeds w/ crankbaits, try to determine the depth where the tops of the weeds are. if the tops of the weeds are 5' below the surface, then put on a DT4, so that it will just barely reach the top of the weeds. if the weeds are very sparse, then you could brave it out and just fish a DT marked at the depth of the weeds and just run it thru the open spaces in the weeds. Guest muddy Posted December 12, 2007 Posted December 12, 2007 Bombers 8A, seem to go through every thing but Milfoil and coon tail with relatively little weed pick up. Trick is you gotta keep em moving at a steady retrieve Quote
Super User Jimzee Posted December 12, 2007 Super User Posted December 12, 2007 You guys were talking about the Pearl Gray Shiner color...I love this color but I swear every time I throw it, I get hung up. I don't know what it is but I can't keep this bait for more than 10 minutes at best. I never seem to get any of the other colors hung...weird? :-? Quote
