beastieboy Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 I have been hearing a lot about round living rubber skirted jigs, I have always fished silicone skirts. Do u guys catch more with living round rubber or silicone skirts? Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted December 10, 2007 Super User Posted December 10, 2007 i used to fish fine round rubber jigs exclusively, but i'm stuck on silicone now. i like the coloration alot more in silicone Quote
LooksLikeSinbad Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 You can combine skirt material too. Here is one I made with silicone and round rubber: Quote
Super User Tin Posted December 10, 2007 Super User Posted December 10, 2007 i'm stuck on silicone now. i like the coloration alot more in silicone I'm with fourbizz on this one. I like how the two look together in that picture though. Never really notice if I catch more with one than the other. Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted December 10, 2007 Posted December 10, 2007 they act totally different and both have their time and place Quote
Super User Catt Posted December 10, 2007 Super User Posted December 10, 2007 they act totally different and both have their time and place Exactly, I like rubber when I want a small profile jig Quote
Super User Munkin Posted December 11, 2007 Super User Posted December 11, 2007 Both work but when making jigs silicone is easier. Allen Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted December 11, 2007 Super User Posted December 11, 2007 ive noticed that flat silicone stays put under the o-ring better. ive had a few round rubber jigs before and the strands were always slipping out or getting uneven. Quote
Shad_Master Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 GMAN, what is the "time and place" for each? Quote
Infidel. Posted December 11, 2007 Posted December 11, 2007 I like round rubber because it sticks out when you trim is short. Kind of like deer hair does. If I am leaving the skirt at full length, then I don't care one way or the other. ive had a few round rubber jigs before and the strands were always slipping out or getting uneven. A good jig maker ties the rubber on with wire instead of using an o-ring. Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted December 11, 2007 Super User Posted December 11, 2007 hah! then i guess my jigs werent good : lol im not too worried about it ;D Quote
Super User Tin Posted December 11, 2007 Super User Posted December 11, 2007 hah! then i guess my jigs werent good : lol im not too worried about it ;D Ya but I get jigs from you so I'am ;D. lol. Dsaavedra might not make the best silicone/living rubber jig but his hair jigs are pretty sweet guys. Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted December 11, 2007 Super User Posted December 11, 2007 thanks for the good word. and just so you know, i didnt make the rubber jigs, i bought them Quote
Super User Munkin Posted December 12, 2007 Super User Posted December 12, 2007 For jigs that have the bulkiest profile you cannot beat the ones the Earthworm77 sells at micromunch tackle. They are hydrosilk or something like that? But for murky conditions they cannot be beat. I own just about every color silicone, round and flat rubber but for black flipping jigs his skirts are all I use. Allen Quote
