What line do you prefer for a baitcaster? This past year I stuck with suffix elite and it did me well. I fish mostly clear waters a river and a lake. I did just recently put some power pro 20lb on a spinning reel but havent tried it out yet. So what do you all like the best braid, mono, fluor, or poly. What brands?

I used Yo-Zuri Hybrid on all my baitcasters.  I even use it on my frog outfit.  Fantastic line.

For many years I used Trilene XL. I have recently experimented with P-line evolution, suffix siege, and suffix elite.  I have yet to try braid.

Yo-zuri hybrid for most any lure except worms/jigs then its sufix braid w/ or w/o a hybrid leader.  It all depends on water clarity.

Have tried Yo-Zuri once and hate it.

They are just brainwashed by someone on here.

Best is goggle or view the review on BassPro or Cabelas.

On basspro YoZuri has a review of no less than 4 out of 5

On Cabelas  Ultra Soft has no less than a 4.3 rating out of 5

For the Yo-Zuri hybrid users what lb. test do you use?

I use 6 and 8lb ultra soft on my spinning gear (dropshot and shakyhead)

10lb and 12lb ultra soft on baitcasters except jig and worm I use 15lb

Well, the only time I've tried it (Ultra Soft) is during the winter 3 years ago. I suppose it not a good line to use in cold weather then. I used it on spinning outfit and it tangled up REAL bad. It happened like 6 times in one outing. Immediately stripped it off. Wasn't a happy camper.

I use Izorline XXX Super Co-Polymer 4,6, and 8 lb. test for my spinning gears. 8 and 12 lb. test Izorline Platinum for baitcasting. This season I plan to improve my deep dive cranking skills, any line suggestions?

BTW, has anyone tried McCoy?

I've been using Realine for the past few seasons and really love it.  The bad news is Realine got bought out by MossyOak then MossyOak seems to have just dropped the line.  I've bought a bunch when I can find it but it's due to run out within a year or so.

I suppose I'll be line shopping in the future.

Spinning tackle: Yo-Zuri Hybrid or Hybrid Ultra Soft #6 (.010" diameter, 11.9 lb test)

Baitcasting gear: Original Hybrid or Hybrid Ultra Soft #12 (.013" diameter, 19.5 lb test)

p.s. If you want to give this line a try, it's currently on sale at BPS:

I've used Berkley XL for years and never had any problems.  I just recently put Suffix on a couple of my reels and I HATED it.  I feel like it wants to backlash way too easy.

Cabelas Pro Line Mono , 2 reels with 10#, 2 with 12# and one with 15#. I never have an issue with it.

I started baitcasting when only braided dracon was available. First monofilament I used I believe was Original Stren.

Since then used most all of Berkley's monos, but primarily XT, XL, Big Game and Sensation. Bass Pro Exell also used for a number of years. Supple line, stretchy (like Big Game) and mediocre strength to diameter. Excellent price.

Several years ago switched back to Orginal Stren. Excellent abrasion resistance, nice compromise in stiffness vs. flexibility and good strength to diameter ratio.

I use Original Stren, McCoy, Stren Super Braid, Fireline, Spiderwire Braid, Spiderwire Stealth, XPS Fluorocarbon, and Stren Magnathin. Over the past 50 years I have used a lot of different lines and these work best for presentations I use now.

cart7t, I have some Realine that I don't need (6#,15#,20#). Send me an e-mail and I'll send it to you. purdum43@aol.com
