How's this for a skipping rod?

I'm looking at getting a G. Loomis GL2 6' Med/Fast (SJR722) for skipping baits, mainly wacky rigged senkos. I'll be able to get this rod for about $85 plus shipping with a $50 gift card and a $20 off a $150 purchase coupon from Cabelas. Is this what I'm looking for? Thanks!

I am a St Croix guy, I have however owned one G. Loomis rod in the past, and it was the exact rod your talking about. I was not impressed. Save your money, there are much better rods in that price range, and even for $85 I think it's no bargin.

I agree, the GL2 Series are not the greatest rods. IMO, they have the price tag because of the name, not the quality or performance. If I were you I would go with a St. Croix Avid. If you figured the same rod specifications, you would pay around $160, take the $70 bucks off and you're down to $90 for a very nice rod.

thanks guys. i'll probably go with the avid. my next question would be are these the specs i'm looking for? i know generally speaking shorter is better for casting accuracy that's why i chose 6'. is med/fast enough or should i look at the 6'3" med/xtra-fast?

I'd go with the X-fast.  I think you'll be very pleased.

personally, would look hard at the sjr 783 imx or the avid series.

the imx is a different animal than the gl3.
