ThomasL Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 I might try and treat myself to a one of a kind rod for my special fireblood spinning reel and have been looking at norris rods, megabass destroyers ,where can i find prices and dealers to purchase them.I did see a dealer in the us but his prices seemed high at around 550.00 for a basic destroyer? Super User Raul Posted February 26, 2009 Super User Posted February 26, 2009 Yup, that would be the price for a basic Destroyer, you probably won 't find it cheaper in the US. You may find it cheaper with Plat, but add to the cheaper price the outrageous ammonut of cash you 'll have to pay in shipping charges from Japan to the US and you 'll end up paying perhaps more than getting it from MegabassUSA. If you want something unique I would suggest you contact Matt Davis from Otterrods, he 'll build you a stick ( on a blank you like ) like nothing you can find with all the really kool looking Matagi components. Super User Dan: Posted February 26, 2009 Super User Posted February 26, 2009 I agree with Raul, go the custom route. You will get a rod that is specially designed for you. You can also get it to match your Fireblood to the "T" just like in the picture that Raul posted. That rod was made for that Sol and it complements it extremely well. I have seen some of the rods that Matt has built and they are beautiful. I'm sure you will be happy with the result. Raul, what does a rod like that go for? Quote
michaelkim_9582 Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 thats a sweet looking rod. how much was that. and does otterrods have a site? Quote
The_Natural Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 A lot of folks will say custom, and I can't argue against it, but I can offer some counterpoints. For your fireblood....a Steez 6'8" Compile-X spinning rod would be bad to the bone....a combo to be reckoned with.. When the Steez Compile-X rods hit the USA; they actually dropped in price. These same Steez rods we consider expensive were actually $600-$800 rods in Japan, and were lowered to bring them closer to what the USA's top offerings cost. I wish my 7'1" casting model Steez Compile-X rod was faster in action, but the Steez 6'8" medium-light spinning model is a different animal, and extremely crisp....it borders on extra fast. It's my favorite spinning rod I've used to date for drop shot, shakey heads, and finesse plastics. With that said, the best feature is the warranty. I mentioned this last because although a warranty is important; I don't believe in 'settling' on a rod just due to a good warranty. When I stepped on the tip of one of my steez spinning rods last summer...I had it exchanged the same day at Cabelas....no questions asked. When you combine a top-of-the-line Japanese spinning rod with a lifetime over-the-counter warranty....it seems like a no-brainer. FYI...this is why I also shop at cabelas exclusively....everything is 'over-the-counter' when you purchase from them. Quote
fishntime Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Hey Raul, thats a sweet looking rod. Quanto? Quote
Super User Raul Posted February 27, 2009 Super User Posted February 27, 2009 Hey Raul, thats a sweet looking rod. Quanto? I can 't say how much, it depends on which blank you choose and which components you plan to add, a rod like that built on a GLX blank will run for about 500, the catch here is this, with an import rod you won 't get much warranty ( 1 year perhaps ) with a GLoomis or a St Croix blank you 'll get either company 's warranty applicable to the blank. You break it, GLoomis or St Croix will give you a new blank for little money. With an import, you break it ----> you scrwd. We have other rod builders here: Flechero, Alpster and Reel Mech. Quote
SWMIBASSER Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Just an FYI, since we are kinda talking about rod blanks... The best value out there that I've seen is at Johnny's Pond....An online company. They sell Rogue rod blanks for an excellent price. You would have a hard time finding a lighter, more sensitive blank than Rogue. Made in USA, lifetime warranty, and started up by one of the Loomis gang. My factory Rogue rod is excellent. Quote
