ToledoEF Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 Ok, I am newish to baitcasters, ive gotten it down pretty good, so I am gonna buy a new reel around 100-120$ range! I am looking at 4 options here. I also want to string braid on it! 1. Abu Garcia Revo S http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_84683?cmCat=CROSSSELL_PRODUCT&cmid=PP_P1_2 2. Shimano Citaca http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_84683?cmCat=CROSSSELL_PRODUCT&cmid=PP_P1_2 3. Quantum KVD http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_98401?cmCat=CROSSSELL_PRODUCT&cmid=PP_P0_2 4. Gander Mt Elite series http://www.gandermountain.com/modperl/product/details.cgi?i=410847&pdesc=Gander_Mountain_Elite_Baitcast_Reels&cname=Baitcast-Reels&aID=504A1A&merchID=4006&r=view Ill be matching this to a 7' m fast action shiamano clarus casting rod! -nick- Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 I would go with the citica! I was just in the market for one in the same price range and found the citica is the best for the money. I can't wait for mine to get here! ;D Quote
FordNFishinLover Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 I would definitaly get the Citica! Quote
Super User Sam Posted February 20, 2009 Super User Posted February 20, 2009 Double check your rod specs and match them up with the reel of your choice's specs to make sure they balance. If I had a choice, I would go with the Shimano. But I am a Shimano guy. Just check out the rod's and reel's specs to make sure they match; sleep on your decision; and when you wake up you will have your answer. if you are still confused, write the name of each reel on a piece of paper and throw them down the stairs. The one that goes the farthest is the winner. ;D Quote
ToledoEF Posted February 20, 2009 Author Posted February 20, 2009 All my spinning rod/reels are shimano, but I picked up the abu 2day and it felt great, just didnt cast with it. The gander mnt one is a nice feeling reel to. I wish they all had line on them with a rod and I could just cast them. Quote
seyone Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 I love the citica reels, great reel at $120. Just got my second E yesterday. Quote
Blade-Runner Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 If you have a Dick's Sporting Goods nearby, you might check them out. I got a 2008 model Quantum Energy PTi baitcaster NIB for $89 on clearance a couple weeks ago. They had quite a few other good clearance reels when I was there... Quote
ToledoEF Posted February 20, 2009 Author Posted February 20, 2009 I have cabelas 30 min dicks 10 min gander 10 min bass pro 15 min I have a lot of options for fishing gear lol, I am not familiar with quantum reels although my friend loves his accurist for flippin other than that he uses phlueger (sp?) 5151 Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 Throw in an extra $20 and get a Pflueger President. I think Pfleuger offers a great value to performance reels. Check eBay you can get NIB reels for good prices you just have to shop and always check the sellers ratings. http://cgi.ebay.com/PFLUEGER-PRESIDENT-BAITCAST-REEL-PRESIDENT-2LP-NEW_W0QQitemZ250364263502QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item250364263502&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50 http://www.johnnyspond.com/pflueger--president-low-profile-baitcast-reels.html Quote
Boogey Man Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 Out of the four you mentioned I have the Citica and the Revo S and would recommend the Citica. Quote
Matt 825 Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 I'd go with the Citica also. Great reels!!!! Quote
Super User senile1 Posted February 20, 2009 Super User Posted February 20, 2009 Use the analytical eeny, meeny, miny, mo method. I would choose the Citica but I'm a slightly biased Shimano guy. Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted February 20, 2009 Super User Posted February 20, 2009 Of the ones listed I would say either the citica or revo....the kvd reel is pretty much a Quantum Code and it's ok but not for 100. Outside of the suggestions I would take a look at the president and the BPS Pro Qualifier Quote
Super User J Francho Posted February 20, 2009 Super User Posted February 20, 2009 In order: #2 or #1. #3 and #4 are not an option. Quote
ToledoEF Posted February 20, 2009 Author Posted February 20, 2009 Next week bps will have the johnny morris elite on sale from 179.00 down to 129.99 I held it 2day and it felt good, has magnetic and centrifugal brake. I might just get that! Quote
OIFBasser Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 I have heard nothing but good things about the Citica, and am actually thinking about picking one up myself. I bought my first revo 3 years ago, and now have 5. 1 Revo S, 3 Revo SX, 1 Revo Stx. They are solid built reels, and great drag on 'em. It's up to you. See if they will let you put it on a rod and check out the balance, and the feel. Maybe that will help you decide. Quote
kms399 Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 citica. I have 2 getting another in a week or so. Quote
