SuthernHaze Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 i have been looking at these rods and read a test by taclewarehouse on them. They look nice and i love the split grips on them. Does anyone have any experience with them because i could afford to get a few of these. Quote
Big Tom Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 I just now got the 7' heavy model and it looks and feels great. From what I can tell initially, it is light and made very well. I will fish with it this weekend and let you know more about it. There are a few members here that use them often. Quote
21farms Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 hmmm, i wonder if this is a regional thing because, here on the west coast, powells are very popular and well-regarded. i have four (703CEF, 754CB, 704CB and 702MLEF) and would like to pick up a 765CB and a 733CEF. obviously, i like them very much. Big Tom Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 Its definitely regional. Its kinda like Castaway's and Texas. St. Croix is a HUGE company in the north. I never had heard of Powell until I was browsing Tackle Tour one day. Still don't hear much about them. Quote
djmax22 Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 Powells are very nice rods for the money. I don't think you can go wrong. There frog rod has gotten rave reviews, but I haven't tried it yet. I am looking at getting a Powell 806 for deep cranking. Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted February 20, 2009 Super User Posted February 20, 2009 I have been using the 704 and 734 casting and the 702 spinning for about 3 years. Very sensitive and light, price is right. They have been surprisingly durable as well having fallen on them on rip rap banks, rolled them up in sun roofs, and generally abused them. That being said, i am slowly making the switch to all IMX. Quote

BigBrotherThunda Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 ive got three and i love them all! Quote
Super User senile1 Posted February 20, 2009 Super User Posted February 20, 2009 Powells are very nice rods and for the price they are hard to beat. I have the following: 683CEF 684CEF 684CB 703MEF This is their website: http://powellco.com. I live in Kansas City and when I first bought one of these rods about three years ago, the only dealer near me was Sportsman's Warehouse in Wichita, KS. Now Cabelas in KC and the local baitshop, near the lake I fish most often, sell them as well. Quote
MONSTERhudd Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 Powell rods are my favorite. Great sensitivity, pretty light, guides are great, and they have a big selection of rods. Get one and don't look back. Quote
bmadd Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 I just got in my first one today. A 684CB. I'm very impressed with it so far. Very lightweight and feels balanced. I'll put it to the test this weekend. Quote
