FivePoundBluegill Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 Has anyone tried this lure out? Here is a link to a picture of the lure http://sfttackle.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=310 I think it is a very nice looking lure and I saw them in sports orthority a while back for only about $3 each. Has anyone tried this lure or had any luck with it? If so what is the best way to fish it and under what conditions do you fish it. Also wondering if you fish it like a swimbait or not. I just wanted to know before I buy a couple of these if they work or not. They are cheap i know that much but im wondering if the reason they are cheap is that they dont work well?... Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted December 5, 2007 Super User Posted December 5, 2007 i got one. i have to say ive only fished it 10 minutes to get the feel of it, didnt catch any fish, didnt really try much either. what ive found: its heavy. it sinks fast. to get it to wobble, it needs to be reeled in kinda fast, not too fast, but faster than i'd like to have reeled it in. the lil slits on the sides do nothing...they dont act like "joints" because the plastic is so stiff. the colors are nice, and it looks very realistic. im not saying its good or bad cuz i dont have a good evaluation of it, i can just tell u waht its like. if you want a storm lure that does work, pick up a kickin minnow. those things have amazing swimbait action. very awesome. and they are a bit cheaper than the kickin slab. if you do get one, be sure to get a few cuz they are very supple and they rip easily. unfortunatley i got one and caught one bass shortly after tying it on, then i was waking it beneath the surface and a huge snapping turtle came up and got it, and when i got it to shore it ripped the lure apart. i need some more of those things. HomersTomaco Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 I agree, dont buy them they run horribly Quote
FivePoundBluegill Posted December 6, 2007 Author Posted December 6, 2007 Ok thanks a lot guys I guess its cheap because it is not a good lure. I just looked nice. Il have to try the kickin minnow though. Quote
Super User Micro Posted December 6, 2007 Super User Posted December 6, 2007 If you take the hook off, it would look cool hanging from your rearview mirror. Quote
Terry_ Posted December 6, 2007 Posted December 6, 2007 I fell for this " good looking " bait too. I got one, and I have managed a couple of fish on it. However, I did not fish it the way it was intended. Instead, I let it sit on the bottom almost like dead sticking. The only difference is, I would give it a little shake now and then. Not very productive, but at least a couple fish managed to pick it up. I will not be buying another. :-/ Quote

Hey thanks for the tip. Also thanks to everyone for telling my buying this lure is a mistake. I was just down at my local sporting goods store and bought the kickn minnow instead of the kickn slab since everyone told me the slab is junk and that the minnow works well. I think the minnow would be more of a summer/fall bait though . Anyway tomorrow im going to try to kickn minnow in my pool to see how it swims(yes i know i have a problem, I often test out lures in my pool) Quote

Super User .dsaavedra. Posted December 7, 2007 Super User Posted December 7, 2007 the minnow is sweet. which one(s) did you get? it works very well in the spring/summer/fall....any time the fish are feeding on baitfish, this thing will work. it might be a bad choice for winter though lol...but most moving baits are. thats not a problem testing lures in a pool! its a great way to learn techniques on how to fish stuff, and see what the fish see. and it relieves bordom : LOL! I just bought one because you reccomended it. It was a very cheap swimbait that was only about $2:50. I know it will not catch fish right now but i plan to throw the minnow in the spring after the spawn. I did however test my kickin minnow in my swimming pool today and was realy happy with the action it had. I know it will catch me some nice bass when they start feeding actively again. I got the one that is greenish in color and has similar patterns to a bluegill or baby bass. There are no shad or minnows in most of the lakes I fish so a greenish color would work best I think. ghost Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 Is this the lure you guys are talking about???? http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10151&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&partNumber=83530&hvarTarget=search&cmCat=SearchResults I have the gizzard shad & a couple Sundays ago, snow on the ground I caught 5 bass in like 10 minutes. Yeah this lure has very good action. I did use it again the other day when the air temp was 24 deg. It didn't work all that well since the water was much colder than a couple weeks ago. I just wish it has a top hook also like the Mattlures Baby Bass. I would have caught more bass but I missed some. Quote

Tokyo Tony Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 The Storm slab thing is a POS. I bought one (for 5 bucks, not 3 > ), tried it out for 10 casts. The action is terrible, doesn't track straight, jointed tail is worthless, sinks like a quarter sinks when you try those things in Taco Bell. On my ~11th cast my knot to my leader got caught in a guide and the slab flew about 40 yards into the pond. I'm not saying that was the lure's fault, but good riddens. I do like the rearview mirror idea though - the lure does look really cool. Quote
Super User .dsaavedra. Posted December 7, 2007 Super User Posted December 7, 2007 kickin minnow is great. hopefully you got a good color for your ponds. cant wait to see what you can catch on it! i really need some more of them. Quote
