Whats a good rod for frogs, topwater?

 I just bought a Quantum code 7 to 1 burner reel and am going to use it for frogs, and topwater.  What type of rod should I be looking for, something from BPS.  I am heading down in a couple of weeks to get some new gear for the year.  Thanks.

I don't think I would use just one rod for each of those applications. I would think that you would need two completely different rods, but I could easily be wrong. The pro's will be with you shortly.  ;D

Robby hit wright on the head! For a frog rod I would use a 7' to 7'6" H action and a fast tip or X fast tip,you want to pull them out of the slop fast and that's why this type of rod. Now if you fish frogs around docks, and more open water then you could go MH and a fast tip. The reel that you have is good for frogs because you want a fast reel.

As for top water I would go M action and a Mod. tip to a fast tip 7' rod.There are so many good rods out there, I think it depends on how much you want to spend? You need two rods!

I also use different rods for my treble hooked top water baits, and for my frogs. But if having 2 rods for you is not an option I have seen 1 rod used for each work. A good freind of mine whom I fish alot of tournaments with brings a limited selection of rods as he is usually a co-angler. He tosses bigger treble hooked topwaters (spooks, sammys and such) and frogs with the same rod, a 7' Med. Heavy, fast St Croix Premier. He uses 20lb Trilene big game on that set up, and has no trouble fishing both with it. It's not "ideal" in my eyes for either, but works for him.

You would need 2 different rods for those presentations.  Topwaters you want a medium fast action in a 6' to 6'8" rod.  For the frogs you want at least a 7' mh rod.

Assorted Topwaters - 6'6" Browning Medallion GT Medium Power, 10-lb. Berkley Big Game, Daiwa Viento 6.3:1

Always loved the excitement of frog fishing. Very successful technique during certain conditions. Absolutely NOTHING has improved my frog fishing success like using braided line. If I could only use braid for 1 application, it would be for fishing frogs and toads. I use my high-test braid setup (one rod/reel) for other techniques (heavy cover pitching, punching hippo pads, night fishing with jigs) but fishing the frog requires that setup at a minimum for me...

You would need 2 rods and 2 different types of line as well.  

I use a st. croix avid 7' H for frogs with 65# pp, and a 6'6" M st. croix LT for topwater with 12# mono.  

If you are using one rod it is near impossible because your line has to vary so much for these 2 applications
