Spence Scout ?

Just wondering if anybody uses these much anymore, I noticed they have

changed them over the years. I have some from the late 70's that are made of

wood.

The new ones have 2 eyes that let you change the depth you fish with it and are made of plastic.

These are on my alltime fav. list of lures, They have got great action.

Great for spring time bassin.

Strike king just started re-making them around the last ice out. My fishing buddy had to have one. He was curious and was tossing it around in 40 degree water. And what do you know, a fish nailed it off the surface. Didnt get to hook it. And that is the only time i have seen the kid use it.

I've bought two of them over the years....both of which SANK when they hit the water   Not exactly what they're supposed to do............

I used to have a couple of the older versions.  They came with the old rubber skirts which usually melted after a few years.  I no longer have the baits and honestly I don't even know what happened to them.  Good shallow running bait.

I would contact strike king, they might replace them.

At times I can get the fish to hit these when they wont hit anything else in

my box.

I have 5 different  colors of the old balsa wood version from the 70s, they are

in rough shape need to be refinished and new hooks.

Someone told me that they are collectable so I've been using the new version

which I like also, the action is real close.

Yep still use them I think they also had a cub scout size too. I wish the new ones had the belly fin on them like the old ones.

Wormfishin, the problem with the rough finish is that it will absorb water, making the paint peel. Anytime moisture penetrates the top coat, on a wood bait, the finish will be compromised. If those were mine I would repaint, retopcoat and use them or at least reseal them and fish them. They are great old baits but not of any great collector value, the Clark Water Scout on the other hand carry a good collector price.

They are at lest 25 yrs old..  I have caught alot of fish on those things, but

its been sevral yrs ago.

I have been thinking about fixing them up.

What type of paint would one use to do that and sealer ?

if  you know where to throw them they are one of the best, fish them in trees, get you some new rubber skirts these new skirts today have no action , if you are worred about the finish dip them in diamond coat watter will never get through that

I still use the wooden models in heavy cover. And they still catch fish.

lake wylie bass bust them in the trees and piers, i keep one tied on 

i buy all the wooden ones i can locate any color dip them in diamond dip and you are set

Poes made a copy in the 80's
