Super User 5bass Posted December 2, 2007 Super User Posted December 2, 2007 ....been waiting for SW to open here for a long time and today was the day. I was quite impressed with what I saw, especially in the fishing dept. Good selection of rods....Loomis, All Star (no ASR's yet), St Croix, Daiwa and a HUGE selection of reels although they didnt have the one reel I was really looking for. The Revo Premier. Supposed to be getting them soon. Awesome tackle section, plenty of soft plastics, Reaction Innovations, ZOOM, GYCB, Larew, Venom, Berkley and more. Crankbaits everywhere, Lucky Crafts, Rapala, Storm, Rebel, Bomber etc. Saw some MattLures baits hanging on the pegs too. Excellent selection of terminal tackle and they carry the Picasso Shake Down heads that I had previously only been able to find online. Its certainly not the equivalent of a BPS but seeing as how the fishing tackle stores around here are very limited (Dick's, WalMart, a few small shops) I sure am excited to have SW here in town. Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted December 2, 2007 Super User Posted December 2, 2007 Thats always a great thing to have around, and I'm sure the monkey will be pleased too .What can you really get at wal-mart or k-mart? You been in one, you've been in them all.Same with dicks, but their selection will vary slightly by region.Around here all the shops carry 70-80% saltwater crap including dicks. Quote
bassnleo Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 SW is defiantely a good place if no BPS is close. I have a SW closer to me than a BPS and often find myself making the hour drive when I'm in a pinch. I can usually find what I need there.... Quote
Lucky Craft Man Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 I just got back from SW and purchased a Daiwa Sol for $160 (the have the Daiwa Fuegos on sale as well). The sale price wasn't advertised, but I asked the guy to check the price. When he did, he confirmed it was on sale. That place can have some great sales if you look. Good option to Bass Pro and Cabelas. Quote
bighed Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 Yep, you'll like having SW! I wish ours was a little closer, it's about 30 miles each way for us. Large selection of LC, Mattlures on the wall, Money Minnows, Jackall, Megabass, and on and on. This is where I got my first bags of Roboworms. They have the stuff that's a little ahead of the curve for the serious fisherman. Quote

I saw some Jackall stuff but not Megabass.....I guess I could've overlooked them because there were so many people in every aisle. I plan to go back tomorrow in the afternoon when everybody should be at work. I'm really glad this store popped up here. We needed something like it around here badly.....Dicks was okay for a while but they aint got nothin' on SW. Quote
basspro48 Posted December 3, 2007 Posted December 3, 2007 Dang man yall lucked out over there, I am not impressed with our new Gander Mountain to say the least... Quote
Super User FishTank Posted December 3, 2007 Super User Posted December 3, 2007 Sounds awesome. I wish we would get one here in Indy. We are supposed to have a Cabela's here next year. I can't wait. Dick's may have some good sales but they have no high end stuff and the service is hit or miss. Also, Gander Mountain here is OK but their prices have gone up on alot of stuff I normally use so hopefully Cabela's will even things out. Quote
Super User 5bass Posted December 3, 2007 Author Super User Posted December 3, 2007 basspro48, there was a Gander Mtn to be built here in Roanoke but I think its on the back burner for now for some reason. My biggest problem with Dick's is that they have no high end stuff.....the St Croix Premiers are the highest quality rod they sell and they hardly ever put anything worth a hoot on sale. I do like the fact that Dick's will give you a big discount on the display model reels....I bought a couple Revo SX's and 2 Pflueger Supreme spinning reels there for way less than regular price. I'm hoping SW will do the same. The bait_monkey called earlier and is meeting me at SW tomorrow at 2:15 pm. He says I need a couple more rods and some more LC's to get ready for spring. Quote

It's my understanding they won't get new summer use products until late winter/early spring. Quote

It's my understanding they won't get new summer use products until late winter/early spring. This store is brand new and they are still getting their initial shipments in so the Premiers are coming any day! Plus, one of the 2 guys that run the fishing dept is an old fishin' buddy. Didnt see him until the 2nd time I went. He can/will order whatever we want.....believe me, I asked. Quote

I'm sure they could order stuff at any store if requested. 2 of the guy's behind the fishing counter didn't even know Abu had the Premier, much less out yet. 2 times I asked about new stuff coming in, and that was the "story" I got. Super User 5bass Posted December 7, 2007 Author Super User Posted December 7, 2007 SW here carries the rest of the Revo line, I dont see why they wouldnt carry the Premiers. Really wouldn't make much sense. Quote
