mwbrown Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 hey guys i just got my shimano stradic 2500fi in the mail. It feels super smooth but sounds and feels a little dry inside. It came with the oil and i see it has the place on the side to put it in. I was just wondering if these reels came already lubricated or if i should lube it. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you Quote
Uncle Leo Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 It is said that SHimanos do not require lubrication out of the box. I have found that the spinning reels are somewhat dry. A few drops in the port should not hurt. Enjoy, in my opinion the Stradic is a sweet reel. Quote
fishizzle Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 post this in ths Shimano section in theory the reel should be greased by the factory Quote
mwbrown Posted February 13, 2009 Author Posted February 13, 2009 ya several others ive talked to have said they seem to be a little dry ill try the lube. Thanks Quote
fathom Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 every stradic or sustain that has come into the house has been dry as a bone. that said, in my hands, the gears in the older fh and newer fi do not feel quite as smooth as the older models...they seem to need more lube more often to keep them smooth. KevO Posted February 14, 2009 Posted February 14, 2009 I found a stradic FH on clearance last month at dicks, and it was bone dry. I'm sure it was sitting in a warehouse for a while so I put a drop of oil in it and it was good to go. Give yours a little oil and it should be fine. Quote
Dogface Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 They give you oil when you buy the reel. I think they do this because they do not put sufficient lube in the reel at the factory just in case it could leak out and ruin the packaging. Quote

Are you guys in cahoots and just making up stories? These posts are simply ridiculous.I have never read anything like this here or on any other forum. Shimano reels are good to go right out of the box. If yours isn't, it should be exchanged by the retailer or sent back to Shimano. : Quote
Fishing Doug Posted February 15, 2009 Posted February 15, 2009 Seems like we just had a thread with other people having problems with their new Stradics.... http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1231468670/0 Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted February 16, 2009 Super User Posted February 16, 2009 My Curado E7 needed a little oil when I got it...definitely not the smoothest I have felt straight out of the box Quote

Exchange the reel, Shimano's customer service is second to none. Additionally, the one year warranty should give comfort to any skeptic. Strong, smooth, silent and reliant is the Shimano pledge. 8-) Quote
