booneangler Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 Looking to see if i can find a good rod for throwing 3/8-3/4 football jigs. Want something around 7 foot and a mh. Anyone got any idea's. I was thinking about trying a Shimano Crucial. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 11, 2009 Super User Posted February 11, 2009 If you shop around and keep an eye on our Flea Market, you might be able to pick up a G. Loomis IMX MBR844C for $200. Otherwise, St. Croix Avid AVC70MHF or 70HF. 8-) Quote
KevO Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 I use the Crucial 7' MH its a great rod for throwing football jigs of that size. It's light, very strong, and super sensitive. It's a great rod for the price. I even got mine on clearance for $105. Quote
casterus60 Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 As roadwarrior said IMX 844 is excellent for this application. You can't go wrong with StCroix 7'3'' Carolina Rig.That's my sweet favorite rod for this. Adam Quote
booneangler Posted February 11, 2009 Author Posted February 11, 2009 the kistler magnesium is in the same price range to around $169. Is that rod any good? Never had any kistler's? Quote
detroit1 Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 You need a dedicated rod for football jigs? Seems like cabin fever is reaching new heights.... Quote
Big Tom Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 the kistler magnesium is in the same price range to around $169. Is that rod any good? Never had any kistler's? The Magnesium series is a really nice rod. I have used one on several different occasions and it is light, strong and sensitive. The 7' Heavy model is the one I recommend. Its pretty versatile. Quote
Justin English Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 a dobyns dx 705c is a great rod for thes, rods are normally 249.99 Quote
Matt 825 Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 I really like the Shimano Cumara 7'2" MH for throwing football heads. Light and sensitive!!! Quote
booneangler Posted February 14, 2009 Author Posted February 14, 2009 i have three cumara's and love them but they are not setup for throwing football heads. Quote

I'm not sure of your price range, the Mg series is great and should be <$200, if you have a little more in the budget, I would look into one of the 2009 LTA's with the split grip (~$275). Good luck!
