I.rar Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 im trying to get into baitcasting on a budget. ive been looking for a good/cheap rod for ~$50. i keep finding myself looking at these since they come in a 2-piece. i have a citica d that should be on its way tomorrow. the one thing that concerns me is the 'power hump'. i dont have big hands , but they arnt small either. the closest BPS is a bit of a drive and i rarely go up that way , so i wont be able to check them out in person but everything that i want in a rod , this has. can anyone comment on it? http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_44528_100002006_100000000_100002000_100-2-6?ordProd=Y&CMID=TOP_selectitems#itemDetail Quote
fathom Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 depends on which model you're looking at and what you're going to do with it. the medium has a moderate action and will work for tip-down baits. the mh is also moderate, at least in my hands...will work for blades but, imo, not so good for tip-up...you may wanna look at the clarus models here...may be a few dollars more but, again imo, a much lighter, crisper action for tip-up. am sure there are other rods in that price range others can comment on. as far as the hump, this is a personal thing...i have a ts pistolgrip i keep for tossing in back of the truck at times and like it. as far as the longer models, would not have one...again, personal. Super User cart7t Posted February 5, 2009 Super User Posted February 5, 2009 First. Never, ever pay full price for BPS rods. They're not worth it. If you wait you can get a Bionic blade for the $50 you want to spend. I fished one of those Tourney special rods before. They're a slug. Poor sensitivity. As for the power hump? I'd get yourself into a BPS store and hold one for awhile to see how it feels. Those power humps are either a love or hate kind of deal. I personally like the extra bit of grip up against the reel seat, others don't. Quote
I.rar Posted February 5, 2009 Author Posted February 5, 2009 looking at the clarus , it seems to fit the bill since they do come in a 2-piece. and that warranty looks good too. i just dont have a cabelas anywhere near me , or in NC where ill be moving to later this year. do they ever go one sale at cabelas? aparently BPS doesnt carry that model , at least online. boo. Super User Bankbeater Posted February 12, 2009 Super User Posted February 12, 2009 I have on that I use only for cranks and spinners. Quote
Ineedanewscreenname20170204 Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 I have a Bionic Blade, and Extreme and a ProQ and love them all. I'd wait for the BPS Spring Classic and pick up an Extreme - they are great, low cost rods on sale. The power hump - I like it a lot. I'd get soemthing at least BB or better. Just my opinion. Quote
