I am certainly no expert, but I have heard a good number of folks say that the Bass Pro Extreme baitcasters are a nice reel for the money.

My favorite baitcasting set up is a G-Loomis MBR782C paired w/ a Curado 101D.  It's light and awesome for chatterbaits, crankbaits, and spinnerbaits!

But for $150, I would go w/ a Shimano Crucial and Citica.  Good luck.

I am just starting into BC's myself, started out on a pflueger criterion, and wasn't having much luck. Just couldn't seem to get it adjusted to were I needed it. Then purchased a little better reel, a Revo S and it was a world of difference. The first trip with the revo the only adjustments I made were to loosen the spool tension. Went back to the pflueger after that and even got better with it.

Guess what I am trying to say is don't "save" money on a cheaper reel, get a best your money can get. It will definately help.

If you go with the Extreme, wait for the Classic Sale and get an Extreme combo. They practically give them away.

The fella with the Criterion by Pflueger is 100% correct. Pflueger Bait Casters are only worth the dough from the Trion line and up

The Extreme Bait Casters by BPS for 50 bucks is an excellent way to go , they were the reel I learned how to Bait Cast and I have held onto only  one, as I love the Pflueger  Trions

This would be an excellent combo that with current prices would cost you 130. I have used this combo myself with a lot of satisfaction

PBS Extreme ETX20HB 50 bucks

Cabelas Fish Eagle II Bait Casting rod GC662 6'6" Med/Fast 80 bucks

Sweet combo and you will not have to change off it as you become proficient

The Extreme reels come in so many variations that it is confusing to people. If you are looking for a general purpose reel and you like the Extremes (just ordered the finesse model yesterday) that you can do most of your fishing with get an etx10hfb, it is a general duty reel that will allow for the most versatility and has a flipping switch to boost. The 10 series are the general size bc, the 20's are higher capacity and the 05's are finesse. Good Luck. FWIW I would go ahead and get the extreme and pair it up with the KVD signature series rod, they are on sale now too, I don't think that during the Classic (last weekend in Feb-2nd weekend in March) that you will be able to pick up a Extreme combo for less than 130 bucks, the above described combo will cost 110 without shipping. Good Luck

I picked up a BPS Pro Qualifier Limited a couple yearts ago at Christmas time for $70.  I didn't realize what a deal it was or I would have picked up a couple more.  So I think the BPS reels (Extreme and up) are solid.  I think parts are hard to find after a year or 2.  Other than That I love my Revo SX.  After doing a bunch of research I'm going to pick up a couple Curado 200e7 reels on ebay.  Best of luck!

The Extreme is definetly the best "cheepest" BC you can get.  It is not the quality of a revo or curado.  They are solid reels with exellent braking system to help you avoid backlashes.  If i were you i would wait until the BPS Spring classic (if it ever comes) it is usually at the end of february.  Last year they had the Extreme reels on sale for like $60 and the Extreme rods were $60 also and the rods are normally $99.  So you could walk out with an Extreme combo for $120.  Thats the best BC combo you will find for that price.  NO QUESTION
