Set up for lipless and small cranks, 7ft m/m?

Putting together a set up for small cranks, lipless cranks, and maybe some smaller other lures.  Anyway I'm thinking a 7ft m/m paired with a 6:2 reel.  My other cb setups are on mh crankin sticks and I don't think are ideal for throwing the smaller stuff.  So am I on the right track with this or should I be considering a different rod or reel?

I use a St. Croix AVC70MM, Daiwa Sol, and 8# P-Line CXX X-tuf to throw medium divers down to Peanuts and PeeWee Wart sized baits.

I love that rod.  I've even been using for cold steel in the tiny ditches I frequent all winter long.  The rod feels a bit soft compared to usual bass gear, but I'd say landing a few 8# class chromers is testimony to its backbone.  I also used it for dragging tubes for smallies last summer.  A little different feel than the usual 7' MH/F spinning gear I usually employ, but just as effective.

The only issue that would ever come up would be the lack of backbone needed to rip the traps out of grass. If you are not fishing heavy grass there would be no issue that I can think of. Enjoy

I've got a MH crankin stick for that, I'm having a little trouble with hooksets on the lipless, so that is the reason for the M/M, plus small cranks.

The tip on the AVC70MM loads to throw any trap type lure a country

mile. When fighting fish, the rod is a shock absorber, but when fully

loaded, this rod is stout. My biggest bass caught on this rod was last

summer fishing a 3/8 oz Cavitron Buzzbait, black on black. The fish

weighed in at 6 1/2 lb and fought like a wounded tiger. The rod

performed exactly as expected...very well.

Regarding ripping through grass, it depends on the grass. Long Mike

and I found a wind blown, shallow cove on Guntersville last year. This

is the only rod I used and the XCalibur Xr50 was the only lure I threw.

Every cast required an extensive cleaning, the grass was thick. For

awhile, the bass were, too!

i use an AVC70MM too! I use it for all of my cranking, which is mostly shallow runners and lipless cranks, and its great for both.

Staying with the St Croix theme, I like the Legend Tournament 7' Medium/Fast for my lipless cranks.I don't have a problem keeping fish on at all, and prefer the fast action for ripping it through weeds, keep in mind  almost ALL of my lipless crank fishing is done in weeds,just because thats the way the lakes I fish are. So I feel more comfortable with the fast action rod, now If I didn't fish weeds so much I would think the moderate action would be fine, or even prefered. I have used a moderate action rod in the weeds and feel it's not the best situation.

It's not quite as good for heavy grass or "rip" bait fishing, but I like throwing small cranks and traps on a 7' ML BPS Crankin' Stick. I run these lures with an older Curado-200 (5.4:1) w/ 10-lb. mono.

It's a great all-arounder for Bandit-size (~1/4 oz) and traps 1/2 oz. and under. It doesn't have the backbone for heavy ripping, but it's served me well as a lighter-weight, non-glass, lower-priced cranking rod. For big traps, larger cranks, or plus-size topwaters I'll use a MH graphite rod.

I use a Fenwick HMG 6'6" M (GT66M).  It's a great rod for mid sized cranks and lipless.

I use a 6'6 med heavy BPS Bionic Blade with an Abu 5600C4. I usually spool it with 15 pound mono.

I picked up a 7' M/MF Kistler Magnesium TS "Alton Jones Crankbait Special" a little while ago for the same purpose, and so far I like it a lot.

It's a moderate-fast action graphite composite, so it's not quite as "whippy" as some of the other crankbait rods out there and has enough backbone to yank my lipless cranks thru the weed-filled puddle I usually fish.
