Bassin_49er Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 I really want a loomis rod. I really don't want to pay loomis price. What are the pros/cons of purchasing a custom made loomis? Any recommendations? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 9, 2009 Super User Posted February 9, 2009 Well, we have some builders, so post this is "Tacklemaking", too. Custom will probably cost more than over-the-counter, but you can specify your components and go with spiral guide placement if you like. My #1 recommendation is to be patient and keep an eye on our Flea Market. Great deals pop up all the time. 8-) Quote
Super User flechero Posted February 9, 2009 Super User Posted February 9, 2009 You can't commission a custom rod cheaper than the retail price... in fact, it's usually 20%-40%MORE expensive. Unless of course, you steal the blank and supply it to the builder. ;D but to answer your other question, the pros of a custom are that you have exactly what you want from an ergonomically fitted (to your hand) grip, any size shape material grip and handle length/configuration. The rod can be balanced to your specs, you pick (with guidance) the guides and components. Your colors, wrap designs, and any inscription or other "decorative" extras you might desire. Quote

X2, there aren't any custom rod makers who are going to build you a rod for less than it would cost factory price, otherwise everyone would buy custom rods instead of factory. The only way to get a custom loomis cheaper than factory costs is if you make it yourself and you have a wholesale discount. Quote
