visited with my brother this evening to con him out of his deceased father-in-law's fly tying equipment - success - must love his brother to part with the complete setup!

I took quite a ribbing about the fly equipment since I just got 2 new casting reels and rods over the Christmas season and have been practicing in the snow since, he didn't think I was good enough to cast the flies yet regardless! ;D ;D

Well I couldn't resist the offer to add to my casting reels when he showed me this ......

I like the picture on the left side of the can.  it shows how it would look on a rod.  pretty neat.  Looks like the rod would have the seat sideways though?

Here is more information about this reel!

Quote"  Named after the state where it was first manufactured and popularized, the Indiana reel was conceived with a dual purpose. It would function as both a line dryer (for the silk and linen lines used at the time) and as a casting reel. It served both functions well, and was also employed as a trolling reel. The first Indiana reel patent was granted to C.D. Rider on December 1, 1908" End Quote"

Anyone remember braided casting line back in mid 40's...not the same as braided is today.. it seems to me that was not always round if you really looked at it,  we also used it for throw lines for catfish and sucker fishing too.

One reason I fished more for trout, I was not allowed to touch pap's level wind cast reel but did end up with a nice bamboo fly rod and reel to fish with.  I am thinking it was like early 50's when I finally got a cheap spinning outfit to fish with.

That is cool! Great Find, I bet that would also make a great back scratcher. 8-)

That makes the second one that I have seen. One friend of mine has the twin to yours but not in as great of shape as yours.

Very cool indeed!

My Grandpa has one that was his brothers, they are pretty cool reels. His still has the vintage braid on it.

By the way, I have to agree with Muddy, it would make a good back scratcher
