Wearing on the reel?

I always here about guys practicing flipping and pitching.  

Does this put any wear and tear on your reel? (the button to engage the reel or wearing out parts in the reel)

I may being ridiclulus  ;D but i just wanted to check and make sure.

Keep your reel maintained - grease and oil as needed, or have it professionally cleaned yearly, and it will last you YEARS.  I had an old Daiwa BWII that lasted almost a decade before I upgraded to a TD-X103HSDL for my heavy cover fishing.  Its still in use to this day.

Sure it does.  Do you not drive your car because it will put wear on your car?  Does it not generally last for many thousands of miles, if well maintained?  Its all in the maintenance.  Don't bother asking the questions if you cannot respect the uncommon sense being handed to you for free.

had an old castaic i pitched with forever and never did wear the durn thing out.

anything you use will experience wear...the more often you use it, the more it will wear.

that said, would be willing to bet if you did nothing but pitch with a properly lubed quality reel day-in, day-out, it would still be a long time before you needed to start looking at the clutch assembly and related parts.

today's quality reels are a lot tougher than we sometimes give them credit for.

No, there is nothing left to say.

"Using" a reel will not wear it out

if it is properly maintained.

Reels wear out if you don 't take care of them ( no greasing, no oiling, no cleaning, keeping the drag tightened up during storage ) if you take care of them on a regular basis they last a long, long, long time before they even show signs of wear.

Being said that my old Abu XLT PLus Series are more than 20 years old and they are in excellent condition.
