I know it's almost super bowl time, but I wanted to try and get this question asked before I buy/trade for a new reel. I have a Revo SX that I use for most of my applications (3/8 oz to 3/4 oz), but I need a reel for throwing smaller crankbaits (1/4 oz). It will be paired with a medium 6'6 BPS Crankin Stick. Here are some of my options. 1.Curado or Citica E's. 2. Citica 200 D. 3. Get another Revo SX. I am rather new to BC's and just looking for preference. Thanks in advance everyone.

All reels you mentioned are good.  If you already have a Revo and like it I would get another.  IF you are throwing 3/8 with no trouble I can't imaging another 1/8 less would give you trouble.  Downsize your line and make sure your rod is rated low enough to throw a 1/4oz so that your rod will load properly.

Some of the Shimano guys will be along to verify this, but I don't think the 200's excel in light baits.  I think you need to be looking at 100's or chronarch mg's if you go the Shimano route.

To add to what Matt said if you go the shimano route, the 50mg would throw those baits pretty well and you can get them for less than a curado 200E now.   I had been throwing small crankbaits on a 200D and it is possible but was a little difficult.  I switched to a 50mg and I got more distance and was able to cast more accurately.

wait is this the same reel your trying to sell in the flea market? you claim you have only used it twice?

before you try to make it look like he is lying read the post on the flea market it says he bought a LH and is selling the RH version

Thanks ebby. I used  the LH revo the last few trips I went out. I bought the RH model during the fall and used it twice, but once trying a friends LH retrieve I felt they would better suit my needs. Since then I have only used LH models. Don't worry Jig, I am not the type that gets bent out of shape, I understand there are many misunderstandings and this was just one. I could also rephrase my first post, "I have a Revo SX that I will use..." I say this because I am looking for answers to set up my arsenal for 2009 which probably won't start anytime soon here in Chicago. Also, thanks a lot for all your help guys. I think I am going to look for a good used mg51 for light cranks. Again, no hard feelings Jig. Back to the superbowl.

I suggest an Ardent C400. I can cast 3/16ths rapala shallow shad raps with ease with mine.

Im a shimano man but, I must say if I were you Id get another revo. To me any time you can have several of the same reel its better than constantly switching back and forth between differing types of reels. And I would make the next one a revo STX for the lighter weight casting.

It looks like the ardent C400 is only RH. Unfortunately I am looking for lefties. Thanks for the input though. Calcutta, I think I am actually going to get an mg50 for the purpose of throwing light cranks. If I like it, I may just have to purchase a curado at the Spring Classic and sell the Revo. The more I research these forums, the more I like shimano. Then I realize I have never thrown one before.  :)

Now that I have a reel picked out, will it work with a  Med. BPS cranking stick? I have the rod already, but could upgrade. Also, for throwing the lighter stuff, would it benefit me to look at getting a ML action rod? Or would that limit my options too much. The rod right now is rated 1/4 to 5/8 oz. Thanks ,

I have a 6'6" M BPS Crankin' Stick, and it works just fine for lighter cranks.  I used to fish small shallow runners on this rod quite a bit, and I never had a problem.

Dude...you can get the the Mg50 for $168.99 after you get the extra 10% off!  They only have left handed reels left...lucky for you.  The Mg50 is one of the best light bait casters ever made.

In case you're wondering he's talking about Tackle Warehouse
