Super User Bassn Blvd Posted February 1, 2009 Super User Posted February 1, 2009 If people would just take the time to surf through the many, many, many, many, many post on here, then they would more than likely answer their own questions. It seems like everyday someone asks "what the best rod I can get for under $100." I bet $100 that 75% of the questons asked are repeat qeustions that have been asked and answered in the past 30 days. Super User roadwarrior Posted February 2, 2009 Super User Posted February 2, 2009 I bet $100 that 75% of the questions asked are repeat questions that have been asked and answered in the past 30 days. Well, we have "new" topics and fresh comments on a daily basis, but "best reel", "best rod", "best line", etc. does get a little old for those that are online a lot. However, it's all new for many! So, read/ reply to threads of interest and pass on those you find redundant...it's really no big deal. My "Best" at moderate pricing points: Rods: G. Loomis IMX, St. Croix Avid Reels: For baitcasting, CH50MG currently on sale For Spinning: Stradic 2500FI, ICAST "Best In Class" Line: Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft #6 for spinning Original Hybrid or Ultra Soft #12 for baitcasting Hooks: Gamakatsu Soft Plastics: Gary Yamamoto Custom Baits Jigs: Evolution, GMAN jigs and Micro Munch Tackle Jerkbaits: Hard: Rapala Husky Jerk and X-Rap Soft: Slug-Go Topwater: Zara Spook, Chug Bug Crankbaits: Norman Fat Boy, XCalibur Xr50 8-) Quote
Super User flechero Posted February 2, 2009 Super User Posted February 2, 2009 More info does help but the flipside is that some people answer certain questions (best rod for example) with a rubber stamp, regardless of info and budget provided. Some stuff definitely gets "senko-ized" but without any repetitive topics, the is would be more like a library than a forum. Admittedly, there are some things I pass over because they get asked so often. You wouldn't even need a search to find some stuff, just look towards the bottom of page 1. ...lol The answers or perspectives do change with different people... Quote
Super User Raul Posted February 2, 2009 Super User Posted February 2, 2009 People asking about which is the best rod for under a buck are some of the most common threads, no need to place a sticky ---> ignore them. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 2, 2009 Super User Posted February 2, 2009 I've noticed over the past several months that the responses for less expensive gear have been nice and very helpful, but I agree with Raul, if you don't have constructive input there is no need to post. Quote
PAfisherman Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 I believe that these forums (and many other different topic forums that i belong too) are an incredible resource of information.I think that the purpose is too inqiure the expertise and advice of veteran members. No offense to anyone, but I don't understand why some do not like it when people ask simple questions and often asked questions. It seems that if we didn't have these visitors and newbie's asking these questions, this forum board would be VERY boring and there wouldn't be anything new for any of us to read or give opinions too. Asking the same questions that you see in the list of current topics, I agree is redundant info. But if it's not right in front of you, why not inquire the knowledge of all the great people on this board. Please...I mean no offense to anyone or any one's post.....just my thoughts on this topic. Because as one of those knowledged members, I basically no longer reply anymore. Many others are the same way. I've suggested a board for each of the major reel manufacturers like the Shimano board with stickies at the top of each for reviews/likes and dislikes of specific models. Someone interested in a specific reel could go to the specific board and get some ideas about the reel he/she is interested in instead of posting a "What do you think about these 2 reels?" Inevitably it always turns into a popularity contest. You could have a general sticky at the top for most of the major rod brands as well where questions about a specific rod could be asked and then answered by those who actually own one of those rods. As it is, if someone posts a question about "Brand X rod" the thread might start off OK until fanboys of Brand Y rod show up and ruin the thread with "You don't want that rod, you want Brand Y rod for $$$. Then the thread gets thrown off track with bickering which is why I rarely bother to answer anymore. Quote
bigfruits Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 all the sticky has to say is rod: loomis or st. croix reel: shimano or daiwa Quote

LAO162 Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 No doubt stickies would be helpful for many topics. But, in my profession I have to play Devil's advocate...So here I go... I often try searching, but I'm sometimes overwhelmed by the number of threads. Or, if I'm researching a new topic, sometimes a fresh question helps bring up key terms and buzzwords for additional searches. Also, different experience levels and budgets lead to different perspectives. For instance, I aspire to someday attain Road Warrior's moderately priced gear suggestions. Perhaps the greatest value of new threads for novice and intermediate fisherman is the opportunity to have dialogue. It is through discussion that I learn and open my mind to new ideas. Plus, the dialogue increases my passion for the sport. Sometimes, I think a well thought response from someone with intermediate skills is more helpful then comments from an expert, because the intermediate level sportsman still remembers the challenges of the newbie. On the other hand, the experts sometimes don't realize that they take certain knowledge, skills and budgets for granted in their responses. Most importantly, dialogue with others of similar skill levels is FUN. It is especially rewarding to share ideas with others who have a similar perspective. It also feels great when an expert follows one of my comments and validates my thoughts. A sincere Thank You for the Experts who do take the time to teach and chat with those of us who still have more to learn. I am amazed by (and thankful for) RW's ability to recall relevant threads from the past. :) Quote
