AZfishrman01 Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 I bought a brand new Compre to pair w/ an older model of a Daiwa i had. After buying the Compre, the reel broke about 2 weeks later during a hook set. lol But I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on a quality reel for under $100. I'm still in highschool and don't have too much money to spend. haha I like the new Shimano Sedona and the Pflueger President, but not too sure of their quality. Quote

One that was highly recommended was The shimano Symetre. Check E-bay, there are some last years models going for roughly 60-80 bucks. Can't go wrong with that one. Here's one I just found. Not to bad of deal. Seller looks good and free shipping. Just someting to consider. LAO162 Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 I'm a big fan of the Daiwa Exceler. I use my Exceler on the 6'3" MXF Crucial. Great line management and casting distance. The Cabela's Tournament ZX and Prodigy (both by Daiwa) also look like great deals when they are on sale. Leon Quote
steve328 Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 Ive got both the Symetre 2500 and the Daiwa Regal Xi 2500. I like the Daiwa better but you probably won't go wrong with either. The Symetre is probably a little smoother but I've had a lot less casting problems ( birds nests ) with the Daiwa. My next reel will probably be an Exceler. My Daiwa is also on a 6'3" Compre Medium. Good choice in the rod. Quote

I have a Quantum Catalyzt PTI-A 20, Shimano Sahara 1000 and Daiwa Regal Xi 2000. I like them all with the Catalyst getting the most water time so far. I have it paired with a Cabelas Mag Touch. The Shimano I just picked up so it hasn't seen any water time but it will be paired with a Cabelas XML. The Daiwa is very very nice for the price also and got it off ebay for a steel and its paired with a Cabelas Tourney Trail. Quote

( although I dont think you can purchase directly off the site) Good price good reel. If you seek lighter weight magnesium body check out the pflueger supreme, this might be pushing your budget but a great reel none the less. Quote

The_Natural Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Different folks prefer different brands (I prefer Daiwa spinning reels), but as long as it is a reputable brand and has an aluminum frame....you should be good to go. An aluminum frame (or magnesium) is the most important feature; an aluminum frame won't flex like graphite and will keep your gears aligned for years. The Daiwa Exceler has an aluminum frame and is $69.95. I think the Symetre does as well. Quote
